At the Qualcomm 4G 5G Summit held at Hong Kong on Tuesday, Global VP and Managing Director Xiaomi India, Manu Kumar Jain revealed that the company will soon launch a smartphone with Snapdragon 675 SoC developed for mid-range chipsets. The chipset was unveiled as an upgrade to the Snapdragon 670 launched in August this year.
At the Qualcomm 4G 5G Summit, he spoke about the company’s rapid growth in India. Since its inception in Indian market back in July 2014, it has seen rapid growth selling around 100K devices that year to almost 9.2 million devices last year. Since Q3 2017, it occupies the top place in the smartphone brand rankings and from the recent Counterpoint India report, Xiaomi occupied 27% of the smartphone market during the period of July-September. Jain added that the company ranked 46% of the wearable market share in Q2 2018.
He remarked that the keyword ‘Redmi’ was more searched on Google worldwide than famous celebrities like Tom Cruise, Angelina Jolie Robert Downey Jr and Kim Kardashian. He then went on reveal that a new Xiaomi smartphone powered by the newly launched Snapdragon 675 chipset will be launched soon.
As for the Snapdragon 675 SoC, it is manufacturer by the 11nm manufacturing process and consists of an octa core Kyro 460 CPU and an Adreno 612 GPU. Theoretically, compared to the SD 670, the SD 675 offers 30 percent faster game launch, 35 percent Web browsing and 20 percent faster music launch.
As of this moment, there is no information about the upcoming smartphone. An official word or a teaser from the company is expected soon.
