Xiaomi is an ambitious company, which with its tactical strategies has gained a position for itself in the market. The Chinese smartphone maker not only sticks to smartphones but also has a wide range of tech products.  The company, naturally like any other business firm, wanted to expand its business to the global market. The barrier stopping Xiaomi from doing so was the lack of patents and copyrights.

The scenario is getting changed these days as they have started claiming patent rights. According to Lei Jun, the CEO of Xiaomi, the company has 6324 patents to its name presently and 53% of these numbers are trademarked outside China. Most of the patents that the company possess were filed in its homeland China. But the company now has patents in Europe, Japan, U.S, U.K, Russia, India, Mexico, Australia and South Korea.

Yet another Chinese smartphone maker Vivo changed the way people used to think when they wanted to unlock the phone. This was made possible by launching the Vivo APEX full-screen phone with a retractable selfie camera. It seems like Xiaomi also had a similar patent under its portfolio. The patent was approved long back in 2015.

Last year, during the launch of Mi 5X/MIUI 9, Xiaomi CEO hinted that the company had obtained 4,806 patents. He also mentioned the patent acquisition agreement it had reached with Nokia which would aid in global expansion. So, there is a noticeable increase in 1,518 new patents compared to July last year.

The Chinese smartphone maker also has several patent agreements with bigshots like Microsoft. Xiaomi has plans to concentrate on Research & Development for the betterment of the company. This is a positive gesture as we would be able to witness unique designs and form factors. The company has taken the initial step by opening a new R&D center in Shenzhen, Mainland China to make this happen.

Redmi Note 7, the first phone from the newly formed sub brand “Redmi” was launched 2 days ago. But they missed out announcing an important feature of the phone. Xiaomi President Lei Jun shared in his official weibo account that Redmi Note 7’s uses a design in which it’s buttons are waterproof and interfaces too.

According to Lei, the Redmi Note 7 supports dust and splash protection just like the OnePlus 6/6T. The R&D team did detailed work, including I/O port seal design, switch & USB waterproof seal, speaker double-layer dust-proof design, independent earpiece sealing, and front-facing sealing rubber sleeve.

However the Redmi Note 7 doesn’t come with an IP certification, but it will be able to provide basic water/splash resistance. If that does sound familiar, OnePlus 6 & 6T comes with similar splash resistance.
