Chinese smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi is held its annual product launch event Shenzhen Universiade Stadium where it unveiled the Xiaomi Mi 8 flagship along with other products like Mi band 3 and MIUI 10. They also unveiled another smartphone called Mi 8 SE which is like a low cost version of the Mi 8, just as we anticipated. Basically the looks are similar with the top notch, placement of the rear cameras and glass back, but it’s a little boxy compared to Mi 8.

The Mi 8 SE features a 5.88 inch AMOLED Full-Screen display with a aspect ratio of 18:7:9 and a resolution of FHD+ (2224 x 1080 pixels). It boasts an 88.12% screen-to-body ratio and has   600 nits brightness and 60000:1 contrast ratio. It is powered by an Octa-core Snapdragon 710 chipset with Ardeno 616 and Kyro 360 GPU. It is available in two memory configurations: 4GB RAM + 64GB internal storage and 6GB RAM + 64GB internal storage.

The smartphone comes with a dual camera setup on the rear of 12MP + 5MP configuration while the front offers a 20MP selfie camera. Both the front and rear cameras are aided by AI technology which enhances low light photography. The phone also  has support for AI powered portraits. Connectivity features include X15 LTE, Bluetooth 5.0 and Dual Band Wi-Fi (802.22 ac). It is being backed a 3120 mAh battery.

The smartphone runs on the latest MIUI 10 which makes it the first smartphone to come preloaded with this version. The MIUI 10 comes with a new task manager that takes advantage of the tall display. It maximises screen space along with gestures which users can swipe or hold for more options. The new gestures on the MIUI 10 looks like it have been inspired from Android P. The MIUI 10 also brings support to the 19:9 aspect ratio phones having a top notch.

As for the price the 4GB RAM variant costs 1799 Yuan (Rs 19,000 approx) while the top 6GB RAM come with a price tag of 1999 Yuan (Rs 21,000 approx). It will be available in Red, Blue, Gold and Black colour options.

meizu m6

Meizu haven’t launched a smartphone in India since a while with the last smartphone Meizu Pro 7 launched silent back in April. Today the Chinese smartphone manufacturer changed that with the launch of the Meizu M6 in India. The device was listed on e-commerce site Amazon without any official announcement or press event. The Meizu M6 was first launched in China last year.

The latest entry level smartphone comes with a polycarbonate body made to look metallic using a Non-Conductive Vacuum Metallization (NCVM) process. It features a 5.2 inch 16:9 display with a resolution of HD (1280 x 720 pixels) and is powered by an Octa-core MediaTek MT6750 chipset clocked at 1.5 GHz.

It is available in two configurations: 2GB RAM + 16GB internal space and 3GB RAM + 32GB internal storage which can be further expanded up to 128GB via microSD card, although only the 2GB/16GB internal variant has been listed online as of now.

In the optics department, the Meizu M6 sports a 13MP camera with an RGBW colour sensor and f/2.2 aperture with LED flash while offering an 8MP on the front with f/2.0 aperture. It runs on Flyme OS 6 built on top of Android 7.0 Nougat and is backed by a 3,080 mAh battery. Connectivity options include 4G LTE, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, GPS and more. There is a fingerprint sensor embedded into the home screen button under the display.

The smartphone is available via Amazon India and comes at a price tag of Rs 7,699 putting it against the likes of Xiaomi Redmi 5,  RealMe 1, Honor 7A and 10or D. However it offers slightly less value than the Redmi 5 which gives an 18:9 display and SD 450 at similar prices. However the M6 comes with a fingerprint sensor which is missing in the RealMe 1.

Oppo Find X Officially Launched. Comes with Triple Pop Up Cameras & No Notch!

Oppo Find X

Oppo has finally launched the Find X smartphone in Paris today, after all the leaks, teases and of course the early first look from The Verge before the official launch earlier morning today.

The Find X is launched four year later since the last phone in the Find series. The smartphone ditches the top notch trend and instead brings one of the most innovative design which may make it the best looking smartphone of this year beating the likes of Vivo NEX and Lenovo Z5.

At the first look, the one thing to notice is that there are no cut-outs for the front as well as the back camera. The display stretches up to the top with no bezel. Similar to the Vivo NEX it has a pop up segment but it takes a level up. When you switch on the camera app or smartphone, a cleverly hidden middle section of the device motorizes up and reveals the front as well as the back camera.

This new design makes the screen-to-body ratio to 92.95%, which is greater than any notched or non-notched smartphone available currently. It will be available in Bordeaux Red and Glacier Blue color options and comes with a price tag of around 700 EUR (Rs 55,000 approx). It will be available for pre-order in China from today.

However, the smartphone doesn’t come with a fingerprint sensor whether it is an under display or a standard one, and sorely relies on the Face recognition which means the top part will slide up everytime you unlock the phone. The Face recognition is based on a 3D facial recognition hardware like the Mi 8 and iPhone X and not software based. While Oppo claims it takes just 0.5 seconds to pop up we are not sure how it affects the battery performance.

As for the specs, the Oppo Find X features a 6.4 inch OLED display with a resolution of 1080p. Under the hood, it is powered by the top-of-the line Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset coupled with 8GB RAM and 256GB internal storage. In the optics department, the device sports a dual camera setup at the back of 16MP + 20MP configuration while offering a 25MP front camera for selfies and video calling.

The Find X runs on company’s own Color OS built on top of Android 8.1 Oreo. It is backed by a 3,730 mAh battery which supports Oppo’s VOOC fast charging (and not Super VOOC as reported earlier, which is reserved to Lamborghini variant). It has dual SIM feature and is globally compatible.

The company claims this is because this is its first smartphone to launch in North America and Europe and is not limited to countries like China, India, Philippines, and other South Asian countries like before. And the phone is coming soon to India in July 12th!

There will also be a special edition Lamborghini variant, which will be coming with Oppo’s much hyped SuperVOOC fast charging, which can charge the phone from 0-100 in just 35 minutes!
