Xiaomi Launches Mi 8 Pro & Mi 8 Lite in China



Mi 8 lite launched

Xiaomi has unveiled the Mi 8 Fingerprint Edition and the Mi 8 Youth today in China as speculated earlier. There were various leaks and rumors regarding the launch of these devices and they are now finally official.

The major difference between the regular Mi 8 and the fingerprint edition is the presence of the in-display fingerprint scanner and a gradient finish at the rear.

To recall the specifications, the Mi 8 sports a bright 6.21-inch FHD+ OLED display and has an aspect ratio of 18.7:9. The front camera used in the device is a 20 MP sensor with f/2.0 aperture.

At the rear side, there is a vertically stacked dual camera setup. Xiaomi has gone with dual 12 MP sensors this time. The cameras feature 4 axis Optical Image Stabilization. The device makes use of AI for scene detection and video editing.

The processor used in the device is Snapdragon 845. It is coupled with 6 GB RAM and 64 GB of internal storage. The device runs on MIUI 10 based on Android Oreo. The Xiaomi Mi 8 prices start at  CNY 3,199 (around Rs. 34,000) for the 6 GB RAM/ 128GB inbuilt storage variant and CNY 3,599 (roughly Rs. 38,200) for the 8GB RAM/ 128GB storage model. The device draws juice from a 3400 mah battery. The device will go on sale from September 21.

Coming to the new entry, the Mi 8 Youth. It features a 6.26 inch LCD display with a resolution of (2280 x 1080 pixels) and an aspect ratio of 19:9. It will be powered by an Octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 chipset and will be available in three configurations: 4 GB RAM + 32 GB internal storage, 6 GB RAM + 64 GB internal storage and 6 GB RAM + 128 GB internal storage.

In the optics department, it will sport a dual camera setup of a 12MP primary sensor and a 5MP secondary sensor while offering a 24MP camera at the front. It runs on Android 8.1 Oreo and will be backed by a 3,250 mAh battery. It measures 156.4 x 75.8 x 7.5 mm and weighs 169 grams.

The device is priced at CNY 1,399 (roughly Rs. 14,800) for the 4 GB RAM and 64 GB storage variant while the 6 GB RAM/ 64 GB storage variant is priced at CNY 1,699 (around Rs. 18,000) and the 6 GB RAM/ 128 GB variant is priced at CNY 1,999 (approximately Rs. 21,200). The phone will come with three gradient color variants to choose from and will go on sale from September 25.
