As we already know the battle between the smartphone brands especially Samsung and Xiaomi is very intense for the top spot in the Indian market, while Xiaomi tries to maintain its top spot, Samsung looks to gain back its lost spot as the biggest smartphone vendor in the Indian market.

Now According to a new report by IDC, Xiaomi maintained its number one position in Q2 of 2018 as the top smartphone vendor in India as it shipped a total of 33.5 million units and these increased number of shipments represent strong 20% a year per year growth.

Xiaomi shipments came majorly from online sales which account for more than 56% shipment while only 33% came through offline channels

The report also mentions the top 5 vendors of the second quarter of the year, while Xiaomi retains it spot for number one, which makes it fourth consecutive quarter for xiaomi to emerge as top leader with 29.7% market share followed by Samsung with 23.9, Vivo with the great performance got to 3rd with 12.6% share, Oppo at fourth with 7.6 and the 5% occupied by the home grown companies such as Inflix, itel etc.

It is to be noted that Honor, sub-brand from Huawei which climbed to the second position in the online segment with all time high of 8% share and is giving tough competition to both Xiaomi and Samsung for the top spot.

Although Samsung did manage to make up some shares in the last quarter with a year-on-year growth of 47% and with 30% share, Xiaomi has been progressing way faster with a growth rate of 107.6, while Samsung is progressing with much lesser growth rate. Vivo and Oppo have market shares of 11% and 10%, where Vivo has maintained a good growth rate of 32% by shipping 3.6 million phones. Oppo falls behind a bit.

As the per the earlier report by another research firm Canalys which showed that both the companies shipped 9.9 million smartphones in Q2 2018, which is conflicting with this new report. Another report from Counterpoint Research also claimed that Samsung has surpassed Xiaomi in Q2 2018 to reclaim #1 spot. So we’re really not sure which of these reports are the most accurate one, but one thing is for sure, Xiaomi is here to stay and is only seeing growth in it’s sales chart.

OnePlus CEO Pete Lau recently announced that the company will be releasing its 5G ready smartphones next year and everyone assumed it to be the successor of the OnePlus 6T, the OnePlus 7. However the Chinese manufacturer has clarified that the OnePlus 7 is not the 5G phone which means OnePlus will be introducing a new smartphone in early 2019.

The OnePlus spokesperson told CNET that OnePlus 7 will not feature the next-generation 5G technology to keep the cost under control. It will directly compete with the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S10, which is said to be the first 5G enabled device from the company. There is no mention of the specs, device or even the name of the smartphone.

Meanwhile Lau has confirmed the launch timeline for the flagship OnePlus 7, which according to him will launch in the first half of 2019. It is not clear yet when the company will be releasing its 5G smartphone. Some speculate that OnePlus will showcase it in the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2019 event next year.

Samsung Galaxy A70 and Galaxy A90 are speculated to be the first devices by the company to feature the new Infinity displays showcased at the Samsung Developers Conference (SDC 2018) last week. The South Korean manufacturer revealed four types of Infinity displays of which three came with various notches.

The two smartphones appears to be the first models to have a display notch since the company has managed without notch by including the Infinity Display design having thin bezels on the side but significant space for front camera and sensors at the top and a chin on the bottom.

Now, Russian tipster Eldar Murtazin claims that the Galaxy A90 and Galaxy A70 sporting the new Infinity Display panels will debut in February next year. They are supposed to be the successors to the Galaxy A7 (2018) and the Galaxy A9 (2018) models which debuted with triple cameras and quad cameras at the rear respectively. They are expected to be priced competitively despite being an upgrade.

Samsung revealed three type of notches: Infinity-U, Infinity-V and Infinity-O with the letters named after the shape in which they are cut out from the regular screen space. It is not clear which type of design will be included in the Galaxy A70 and Galaxy A90. However the company teased its Galaxy A8s with the Infinity-O display hole design. The notchless display is likely available to premium Galaxy Series handsets like the Galaxy S10. Ben Geskin who is known for visualising rumours and leaked design render, recently posted an images showing the four types of new Infinity Display. It gives an idea what to expect from upcoming Samsung devices.

The OLED and LCD models are said to be released in markets like Korea, North America while the LCD models are for the price-sensitive markets like India and some other Southeast Asian markets. The ultimate aim is to bring down the costs of the devices lower than KRW 3,00,000 (Rs 19,300 approx).
