Vivo, the Chinese flagship maker launched V9 on March 23. Couple of weeks later, the specs of Y71 was leaked, and now it’s finally here. It was a silent launch without much of a fan fare. The Y71 is a mid range smartphone with a full-screen display.
At the heart of Y71 is a Snapdragon 450 chipset coupled with 3GB of RAM and 16GB of internal memory which can be expanded via a micro SD card. Coming to the design, the phone is fully in sync with the trends going nearly bezel-less. The front bezels are significantly narrow and the back is pretty minimalist except for the camera and the manufacturers name.
The Vivo Y71 is the first phone in the Y series, that comes with a 5.99 screen with a full IPS LCD display and a resolution of 720 x 1440.
In terms of imaging, the Vivo Y71 boasts of a 13MP camera with LED flash at the back and a 5MP camera on the front. The phone runs on Android Oreo out of the box and comes with a 3360 mAh battery to support it. The battery is quite a let down considering the enormous display which can be quite the power hogger, until and unless it’s optimized for performance.
Despite the usual punch, the Vivo Y71 doesn’t sport a fingerprint scanner instead it comes with a face unlock, which is probably the biggest selling point. It is the second phone in the mid range sector in recent weeks that doesn’t have a fingerprint scanner, with Oppo A71 being the other. With more and more phones adopting face unlock, it could turn out to be a standard feature in the coming years.
The phone is available in two variants, one in lustrous metallic black and the other being gold. It is currently available in India for 10,990. Vivo Y71 will be competing with the likes of Redmi 5, Oppo A71 among others.
One interesting thing to note is that Vivo Y71 comes with almost same specs as that of Oppo A71, and they both share the 71 name in them!
