Vivo redefined the basic smartphone design language by managing to add a pop-up camera. This was showcased in the Vivo APEX phone featured at MWC 2018. This results in high screen-to-body ratio. The front camera pops up from the top of the frame on opening the camera app.
The Chinese smartphone maker was able to ditch the earpiece by adding technology to vibrate the display to work like a speaker. They also introduced the in-display fingerprint sensor which enables the users to unlock their phone by touching the screen.
There were leaked renders about the Vivo Xplay7 last year showing off a bezel-less design and in-display camera. It looks like the company has plans to use their pop-up camera which received decent attraction and positive user feedback from the APEX phone on the Xplay 7 too.
Vivo filed a patent for the pop-up camera in July 2017, which is a year after Essential filed its own. This makes it clear that Essential had the plans to implement the pop-up camera in their smartphones but for some reasons, Vivo took the lead.
The build quality and toughness of the pop-up camera is not tested yet but it is more likely that there is room for some improvements in this department.
In terms of specifications, nothing is clear yet. The device is expected to sport dual rear cameras stacked in a vertical manner. In terms of power, a Snapdragon 845 processor is expected under the hood. There will be 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. This device is expected to be a flagship for the company. We’ll post more information about the smartphone when we get hold of some leaks in the future.
Vivo Xplay7 Expected Specifications
- Snapdragon 845 processor
- 8 GB RAM
