Published

on

After being a matter of talks since the last couple of months, Vivo has finally unveiled two new flagship smartphones namely Vivo Nex and the Vivo Nex S today at an event held in China. As expected, the Nex S is the top end variant of the Nex series and comes with an In-display fingerprint sensor. The smartphone is the market ready version of Vivo Apex– the concept phone showcased in MWC 2018.

The specifications are similar to one leaked earlier. The Vivo Nex S is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 while the Nex ships with Snapdragon 710. There is no difference in terms of design except for the fact that the Vivo Nex S comes with an In-display fingerprint scanner and a motorised pop-up Selfie Camera. Let us have a detailed look at both of the smartphones.

The Vivo Nex S is termed as the flagship edition of Nex series by the company due to the fact that it packs flagship grade internals. Both the smartphones sport a 6.59-inch Super AMOLED panel with FHD+ (2316 x 1080pixels) resolution and an aspect ratio of 19:3:9.

The Nex A has a physical fingerprint scanner at the back while the Nex S incorporates an In-display Fingerprint scanner which is an improved version of the one seen on Vivo Apex, the front camera is powered by a motorised slider and elevates from the top whenever the front camera is needed.

The Vivo Nex S runs on Snapdragon 845 coupled with 8GB of RAM and 128GB/256GB of Onboard storage options while the Snapdragon 710 powers the Nex A which is available in 6GB/128GB configuration.

Both the smartphones sport a similar Dual Rear Camera as seen on the Vivo X21 UD. A 12MP Sony IMX 363 is used as a primary sensor with f/1.8 aperture and 4 axis OIS, placed along with a 5MP f/2.4 secondary sensor. The cameras are equipped with several AI enhancements including smart scene recognition and Auto HDR.

The earpiece is removed from the usual location and the Screen SoundCasting Technology is used as a counterpart which produces sound by vibrating screen which as per Vivo, delivers enhanced sound quality. All this is powered by a large 4000 mAh battery aided by a 22.5W Fast Charger to quickly charge the battery. It runs on Funtouch OS 4.0 based on Android 8.1 Oreo.

Vivo Nex

One interesting thing with the Nex S is that it gets a built-in Jovi Voice assistant which can be activated with a dedicated button similar to the one implemented by Samsung for Bixby. Also, It comes with CS43199 and SSM6322 dedicated audio chips that offer Hi-Fi audio output.

The standard 8GB/128GB version of the Vivo Nex S is priced at CNY 4,498 (roughly Rs.48,000) while the one with 8GB/256GB memory configuration will retail for CNY 4,998 (roughly Rs.52,500). On the other hand, the Vivo Nex is priced at 3898 Yuan which roughly translates to Rs. 42,000. Both the smartphones will go on sale from June 23.

meizu m6

Meizu haven’t launched a smartphone in India since a while with the last smartphone Meizu Pro 7 launched silent back in April. Today the Chinese smartphone manufacturer changed that with the launch of the Meizu M6 in India. The device was listed on e-commerce site Amazon without any official announcement or press event. The Meizu M6 was first launched in China last year.

The latest entry level smartphone comes with a polycarbonate body made to look metallic using a Non-Conductive Vacuum Metallization (NCVM) process. It features a 5.2 inch 16:9 display with a resolution of HD (1280 x 720 pixels) and is powered by an Octa-core MediaTek MT6750 chipset clocked at 1.5 GHz.

It is available in two configurations: 2GB RAM + 16GB internal space and 3GB RAM + 32GB internal storage which can be further expanded up to 128GB via microSD card, although only the 2GB/16GB internal variant has been listed online as of now.

Meizu M6

In the optics department, the Meizu M6 sports a 13MP camera with an RGBW colour sensor and f/2.2 aperture with LED flash while offering an 8MP on the front with f/2.0 aperture. It runs on Flyme OS 6 built on top of Android 7.0 Nougat and is backed by a 3,080 mAh battery. Connectivity options include 4G LTE, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, GPS and more. There is a fingerprint sensor embedded into the home screen button under the display.

The smartphone is available via Amazon India and comes at a price tag of Rs 7,699 putting it against the likes of Xiaomi Redmi 5,  RealMe 1, Honor 7A and 10or D. However it offers slightly less value than the Redmi 5 which gives an 18:9 display and SD 450 at similar prices. However the M6 comes with a fingerprint sensor which is missing in the RealMe 1.

  • MediaTek MT6750 chipset

Oppo Find X Officially Launched. Comes with Triple Pop Up Cameras & No Notch!

Oppo Find X

Oppo has finally launched the Find X smartphone in Paris today, after all the leaks, teases and of course the early first look from The Verge before the official launch earlier morning today.

The Find X is launched four year later since the last phone in the Find series. The smartphone ditches the top notch trend and instead brings one of the most innovative design which may make it the best looking smartphone of this year beating the likes of Vivo NEX and Lenovo Z5.

At the first look, the one thing to notice is that there are no cut-outs for the front as well as the back camera. The display stretches up to the top with no bezel. Similar to the Vivo NEX it has a pop up segment but it takes a level up. When you switch on the camera app or smartphone, a cleverly hidden middle section of the device motorizes up and reveals the front as well as the back camera.

This new design makes the screen-to-body ratio to 92.95%, which is greater than any notched or non-notched smartphone available currently. It will be available in Bordeaux Red and Glacier Blue color options and comes with a price tag of around 700 EUR (Rs 55,000 approx). It will be available for pre-order in China from today.

However, the smartphone doesn’t come with a fingerprint sensor whether it is an under display or a standard one, and sorely relies on the Face recognition which means the top part will slide up everytime you unlock the phone. The Face recognition is based on a 3D facial recognition hardware like the Mi 8 and iPhone X and not software based. While Oppo claims it takes just 0.5 seconds to pop up we are not sure how it affects the battery performance.

As for the specs, the Oppo Find X features a 6.4 inch OLED display with a resolution of 1080p. Under the hood, it is powered by the top-of-the line Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset coupled with 8GB RAM and 256GB internal storage. In the optics department, the device sports a dual camera setup at the back of 16MP + 20MP configuration while offering a 25MP front camera for selfies and video calling.

The Find X runs on company’s own Color OS built on top of Android 8.1 Oreo. It is backed by a 3,730 mAh battery which supports Oppo’s VOOC fast charging (and not Super VOOC as reported earlier, which is reserved to Lamborghini variant). It has dual SIM feature and is globally compatible.

The company claims this is because this is its first smartphone to launch in North America and Europe and is not limited to countries like China, India, Philippines, and other South Asian countries like before. And the phone is coming soon to India in July 12th!

There will also be a special edition Lamborghini variant, which will be coming with Oppo’s much hyped SuperVOOC fast charging, which can charge the phone from 0-100 in just 35 minutes!
