Upcoming Snapdragon 710 and 730 Details & Specs Revealed!

Published

on

This year at Mobile World Congress (MWC) event, chipset manufacturer Qualcomm announced its Snapdragon 700 series of processor. The company didn’t reveal any more details at that time. Previously, it will was reported that the chipset will be named Snapdragon 710 processor. Now details of the mobile platform have been leaked along with that of another chipset called the Snapdragon 730.

Snapdragon 710

The chipset was found to be a rebranded Snapdragon 670 one which is why the specs are similar to it. The SD710 will come with support for 2×2 MU-MIMO, dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0. It will be manufactured using Samsung’s 10mn LPE (Low Power Early) node. The SDR660 chipset which is present on the SD630 and the SD660 chipsets is also present.

Inside the SD710, there is an Ardeno 615 which can be clocked to a maximum limit of 750 MHz. It consists of 2 x Kyro 3xx cores clocked at 2.2GHz and 6 x 3xx cores clocked at 1.7GHz. There is also support for 60+fps UI for QHD resolution displays (notched displays) and HDR10 support. The camera gets a upgrade with the latest Spectra 250 ISP with support up to 32 MP. Additionally, it will have support for both UFS 2.1 and eMMC flash memory. There is no dedicated NPU inside the chipset, so machine learning tasks are handled by GPU and Hexagon digital processor Vector extensions (HVX).

Snapdragon 730

The new chipset will be built using 8nm LPP and have few improvements over the SD710 like having Bluetooth 5.1 instead of Bluetooth 5.0. It consists of 2 x Kyro 4xx cores clocked at 2.3GHz and 6 x 4xx cores clocked at 1.8GHz. It has the same Ardeno 615 GPU and Spectra 350 as the ISP along with FS2 sensor support. The chipsets may share the same coding support and storage type but the SD730 has a dedicated NPU (NPU 120).

Both the chipsets are expected to be unveiled at the end of this year and included in devices from next year. Xiaomi is reported to developing a smartphone powered by the Snapdragon 710 which may be the first one to feature it.

Oppo Launches Hyper Boost Tech. Pretty Similar to GPU Turbo, but also works for Apps.

Published

With the increase in hardware power, smartphone manufacturers have turned to software acceleration technology as well. Huawei launched their GPU Turbo tech, which brought gaming acceleration to their phones. Now another Chinese manufacturer OPPO has announced its own acceleration engine called as Hyper Boost which they been teasing earlier this week.

The new technology is capable of achieving full scenario system-level performance optimization and improves the overall power efficiency of the device. The Hyper Boost acceleration engine is being self-developed by the company and includes system engine, game engine and application engine. The system is able to optimize the performance in three aspects of system, gaming and application.

The new technology also has a behaviour-aware scheduling (BAS) solution which has been developed independently by the company. This results in tuning the underlying hardware frequency to 0.2 milliseconds from the default frequency of 20 milliseconds Linux task scheduler. Not any that, it also implements system-level optimisation of hardware platforms and sends a technical feedback to the vendors.

For the gaming department, the company has joined hands with Tencent, Netease and three other major gaming companies to optimize the top 100 games. Currently the company has adopted 11 of the most played games. For applications OPPO has optimised for applications like WeChat, mobile Taobao and mobile QQ. The company aims to combine the Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies to make the Hyper Boost more efficient and capable.

OPPO is also working on a 10 GB RAM OPPO Find X which will also be adopting this technology. It has received certification from regulatory agency TENAA.

Honor launched their gaming focussed GPU Turbo Technology back in June this year which was first featured in the Kirin 970 powered Honor Play. While, the company is rolling the GPU Turbo technology to other Huawei and Honor devices, a second version of the GPU Turbo Technology is already in development. This upcoming GPU Turbo 2.0 will be available with the latest Android 9.0 Pie based EMUI 9.0.

Another Chinese manufacturer Oppo today revealed that they’re going to launch a similar technology called Hyper Boost. As of now, there is no other information about this technology expect for its name. The company will officially unveil this technology in October 11 in Shanghai, China.  Like the Honor’s GPU Turbo technology, Oppo’s Hyper Boost technology is expected to improve graphics processing during gaming.

The upcoming Hyper Boost technology will be embedded with the company’s own customised ColorOS but it’s not confirmed whether the previously launch ColorOS powered devices will also get the update. If yes, the previous OPPO sub-brand Realme smartphones should also get the Hyper Boost tech as they run on ColorOS too. Other details regarding this feature will be revealed at the event which is scheduled to take place just a few days after.
