If some the reports are to be believed, the next generation of Apple’s mobile processors will be manufactured by TSMC as an exclusive.
The report claims to be from an insider from Apple supply chain. And it claims that the Apple A12 chipset will be manufactured on a new 7 nm manufacturing process. What it means for consumer is that the new iPhones will come with way better efficiency and processing power.
It will be manufactured exclusively by TSMC. It makes sense as they’re already the supplier for the A11 Bionic chipset for iPhone X, 8 & 8 Plus and A10 Fusion for iPhone 7 & 7 Plus. This will mark a setback for Samsung as they weren’t able to secure the deal to manufacture chips for iPhones since the iPhone 6s & 6s Plus.
Also, it is said that TSMC’s in-house InFO wafer-level packaging is much more efficient and competitive that Samsung’s similar solution.
It is also said that they’ll also be using their EUV process in these chips. EUV or Extreme Ultra Violet process, is also said to be the stepping stone to 5nm & 3nm processes in the future.
