Sony to make the Next Bezel-Less Smartphone?

Lenovo launched the Z5 smartphone this month and the company left no stones unturned before launch to make us believe it’s a true bezel less device. The top Android flagships this year like the OnePlus 6, Xiaomi Mi 8 all came with a top notch. Now all eyes have turned to Japanese manufacturer Sony as they may be the first one to unveil a true bezel less device. Sony makes smartphones with powerful specs and features but have been failing recently in terms of design.

The company recently held a interview where they discussed about its future design choices. When questioned about the bezel less trend the company hinted that they were moving in the same line. Sony admitted that the new design may see the front camera and the stereo speakers get sacrificed. However they made it clear that that they will not rush for the sake of it and want it to be both pleasing and comfortable.

These reports hint to a smartphone that may have no-bezels or very minimal ones close to the Vivo Nex smartphone. Sony pointed out they went with an 18:9 display in Xperia XZ2 in terms of popularity. But the aspect ratio doesn’t help in all factors and so the company went ahead with a 16:9 aspect ratio on XZ2 premium. Though it was a flagship with a 4K display, it was created for content viewing. The company believes the 18:9 ratio is not the ideal one yet as many videos do not support it and have to stretch or crop it, making it painful to look at for longer periods.

Sony made it clear that though they will adapt new design they will not compromise with user experience.  So let’s hope Sony takes the time required and bring out the perfect design both in terms of looks and usage.

Huawei working on Kirin 1020, said to be Twice as Powerful as Kirin 970!

Kirin 1020

Huawei is one of the largest smartphone OEMs globally and has one of the largest R&D sectors as well. Similar to Samsung, Huawei ships most of its smartphones with its own, in-house manufactured HiSilicon Kirin chipsets. This not only maintains competition in the market and reduces dependence on other chip manufacturers, but also helps in cutting down the cost of the end product.

Their current flagship Kirin 970 SoCperforms great but is not capable of standing against the Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 845 chipset. For that, we already have rumours and leaks for the upcoming Kirin 980 which will be manufactured on the 7nm process by TSMC and is yet to debut with the upcoming Huawei Mate 20.

Now, even before the official release of Kirin 980, we are already getting hints of a much more powerful Kirin 1020 chipset. As per few inside sources, Huawei is already working on a new chipset named as Kirin 1020 which will have twice as much power than their existing Kirin 970 chipset.

There was no other information provided except for the fact that the Kirin 1020 will be ready for powering their upcoming smartphones soon after the initiation of the first 5G network in China. Looking at the claims of the source, it seems that the Kirin 1020 will be the next gamechanger in the mobile industry and might be the most powerful smartphone chipset of its period as well. We will keep you updated further with the latest information, Stay tuned.

Moto One Power Live Hands On Photos Leaked Online!

Published

Last month, it was revealed that Motorola One Power is coming soon, a Moto phone with Android One and finally, a quite modern design. And just two weeks ago, the specs of the Motorola One Power also leaked. Now, a few photos of the phone have leaked online which shows the phone in its full glory.

Some people may hate the design and looks, as Motorola has made it quite modern but added a notch and it’s not just a small one like Essential Phone or Lenovo Z5. The notch is quite big and houses the front-facing camera, LED flash, speaker, and sensors. The LED flash increased the size of the notch a bit but at the same time, it is beneficial to users as they will be able to capture selfies in low light.

Now, in the above image, the notch and the sensors, LED, camera, speaker are visible. Here it can be seen that despite the photo show Motorola One Power in the black color variant, the bezels on top aren’t quite thin. But let’s not just talk about the notch only.

This photo shows the right edge of the device where we can see the power button and the volume rockers, and hence, the SIM tray is placed on the left edge.

While we have seen the front which shows the display and the notch, there isn’t an image showing what lies at the bottom, below the display. As of now, we are not pretty sure whether the Motorola Batwing Logo Placed on the back is actually a fingerprint scanner or not. But it’s quite sure that if it is not the scanner, many Motorola fans will get angry because of the absence of dimple.

On the back, a dual camera setup can be spotted along with the LED flash and the Moto branding, again it can not be totally confirmed whether it is really a scanner or not, though it kinda looks like a standard scanner. Now, the camera setup is quite familiar and resembles the camera module on the iPhone X. There are two sensors, placed into the module separated by a small gap where lies the dual tone LED flash.

On the back, at the bottom, there is the Android One branding which is a bit appealing to many as users whoever would grab the phone can have the peace of mind regarding Android updates and security patches, and enjoy a bloatware free Stock Android experience. At the bottom of the phone, there is the USB-C port, which is a good addition along with the speaker grille. But we don’t see a headphone jack there, so maybe there could be one at the top.

In terms of specifications, the Motorola One Power will sport a 6.2-inch screen. The phone will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 processor, coupled with 4GB of RAM and 64GB onboard storage. There is one 12MP and a 5MP lens on the back, and the selfie camera is an 8MP shooter. The phone will run Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box and will also get Android P as it is an Android One phone, the phone packs a considerable big 3780mAh battery.

Motorola receives Patent for Foldable Smartphone which uses Heating Hinge

After bezel less displays and notched displays, the next trend may be foldable display smartphones. Motorola becomes the latest manufacturer to file a patent for a foldable smartphones. The list is pretty big with manufacturers like Samsung, Huawei, OPPO, LG, Microsoft and many more.

The patent was filed way back in 2016 but is revealed now. As a foldable smartphone, it contains a hinge through which the smartphone can be folded. The schematics of the patented design reveals the presence of a temperature sensor and a heating element which can be activated to raise the temperature of the OLED panel around that area which will allow the display to return to its original position when there is some deformity.

The latest patent from Motorola describes a heat-based technology that helps in immediate repair of the flexible area when damaged. Even if the OLED panels are flexible, the constant folding may lead to deformities in the flexible area of the panel. The deformity though will not be permanent may lead to bad user experience. This is the reason why Motorola will be adopting the heat-based technology.

The patent also describes a special module that can track if the display is folded or not. Additionally there is a backup battery which powers the module so that it can keep track how much time the display is in folded state even when the device is switched off. If it crosses the limited time, the smartphone automatically enter recovery mode as soon as it is unfolded.

Yesterday some pictures were leaked showing Samsung Project V foldable smartphone which was scrapped back in 2016. Huawei is also reported to launched its own foldable smartphone towards the end of this year. So it seems the next year we will enter the era of foldable smartphones.
