According to a new report, Samsung’s first Android Go smartphone won’t run stock Android (Go version) as we expected as this is an Android Go phone. The report shows a couple of image revealing that the device will have the Go versions of Google’s official apps which are installed over the company’s Experience UX.
A quick check over the official Android Go website will tell you that it doesn’t mean users will get a stock Android experience. Instead, it is meant to offer an experience that requires less computing power in affordable smartphones.
Samsung’s Android Go smartphone will be named Galaxy J2 Core and is clear now it won’t been running stock Android. The South Korean manufacturer did released Galaxy smartphones (like Galaxy S4 Google Play Edition) running stock Android via Google Play Edition program a couple of years before. But the company’s future lookout is to bring even its wearables under the Galaxy brand, which is why it will be odd to run stock Android at this point.
From the leaked pictures, the smartphone is running the Go versions of the official Google apps installed. The company is using its standard Device Maintenance feature for Android Go’s data saving and storage management functionality. Another theory is that it has switched back to the Smart Manager app that came pre-loaded with devices launched before 2016. IT will like have the same features and abilities as the Device Maintenance tool on Modern Galaxy smartphone though.
From the images, you may have noticed that the smartphone doesn’t feature a Infinity display and have on-screen navigation buttons. The company may be looking forward to ditch the physical home button and capacitive navigation buttons on all smartphones, even if they don’t have an all-screen design. The device runs the latest Android 8.1 carrying the security patch for December 5, 2017 but it will likely be updated.
The smartphone is still in testing phase and its too early to comment when the device will be launched. Having said that , it was spotted in benchmarking website a GeekBench and a spec sheet of the device was leaked last month which revealed it will be powered by an Exynos 7570 Quad-core chipset coupled with 1GB RAM and 16GB internal storage. It will offer a 8MP rear and 5MP front camera and will be backed by an 2,600 mAh battery.
