Samsung to bring Notches to their Phones Soon!

Published

on

Notch smartphone is one of the hottest trends (or rather most hated) in the smartphone industry this year after it was introduced by the Essential phone and made mainstream by the Apple iPhone X last year. Samsung has not yet released any notches devices yet but has mocked the Apple notch in multiple ads. Now, it seems that the South Korean giant may soon venture into the notch design after a little more than a year of its introduction.

The revelation was done today at the Samsung’s developer conference where it not only mentions about introducing notch for its upcoming smartphone but revealed three different notch designs called Infinity-U, Infinity-V and Infinity-O with the letters named after the shape in which they are cut out from the regular screen space. Hassam Anjum, a director of product marketing at Samsung took the stage to explain the company’s breakthrough in reducing bezels and maximizing bezel size year after year.

The Infinity-U notch reminds us of the first notch from the Essential phone while the Infinity-V brings in notch similar to what we have seen from Oppo F9 Pro, Realme 2 Pro, Vivo V11 Pro & OnePlus 6T. As for the placement, the Infinity-U and Infinity-V seem to present on the traditional centre at the top edge while the Infinity-O appears to be a circular cut out present closer to the edge of the display instead of the centre. This is pretty much what Samsung teased with

Apart from the notches, the company has also teased the new Infinity design which looks like a bezel-less notch-less design hinting that it may be aiming for all-screen displays on flagship phones and notches for the mid-range and budget ones.

The new ‘Infinity Display’ may be the latest OLED panel from Samsung which will come with an in-display camera and fingerprint sensor embedded in it. Though Samsung may be the last to adopt, it may bring a much needed freshness and innovation in the notch design.

Redmi Note 7, the first phone from the newly formed sub brand “Redmi” was launched 2 days ago. But they missed out announcing an important feature of the phone. Xiaomi President Lei Jun shared in his official weibo account that Redmi Note 7’s uses a design in which it’s buttons are waterproof and interfaces too.

According to Lei, the Redmi Note 7 supports dust and splash protection just like the OnePlus 6/6T. The R&D team did detailed work, including I/O port seal design, switch & USB waterproof seal, speaker double-layer dust-proof design, independent earpiece sealing, and front-facing sealing rubber sleeve.

However the Redmi Note 7 doesn’t come with an IP certification, but it will be able to provide basic water/splash resistance. If that does sound familiar, OnePlus 6 & 6T comes with similar splash resistance.
