Samsung Galaxy Note 9 is just days away from launch and everyday something related to the device pops up in the news. Today a video surfaced online that not only shows the design of the smartphone but also confirms other remaining specs. Previously both images of the smartphone and also specifications were leaked. A Lilac Purple clor was also spotted recently.
Now, a new unboxing video has surfaced online, which shows off the device in it’s all glory and also we can see the full specs of the phone from the box! Take a look:
The Galaxy Note 9 device in the video is a black variant and has a similar packaging seen on the Galaxy S9 Plus along the contents of the box. It seems to come with IP68 rated water and dust protection. The South Korean electronics giant has included a pair of headphones with a smartphone which seems to be the same AKG tuned headphone pair which came with the Galaxy S9 and the S9+. A micro-USB to USB Type-C cable is also there which is a bit weird and seen first time in a retail box.
The Galaxy Note 9 will feature a 6.2 inch super AMOLED display with a resolution of Quad HD+ and an aspect ratio of 18:5:9. The panel will be similar to the last year’s Note 8 itself with no major design change.
It will be running Exynos 9810/Snapdragon 845 chipset, based on the country. It will be offered in 6GB and 8GB RAM along with 64GB, 128GB, 256GB and 512GB internal storage variants which can be further expanded with a microSD card. It will sport a dual pixel 12MP + 12MP configuration with OIS in the back while offering a 8MP camera in the front.
However the USP of the phablet will be its S-pen, as any other Note model from Samsung. Which received some upgrade like Bluetooth support, increased accuracy and expanded software support for business users confirmed by the recent FCC listing. Rumours even claim integrated microphone and speaker on the S-Pen. Other features include rear mounted fingerprint sensor, NFC, heart rate scanner, iris scanner and a 4,000 mAh battery with wireless charging.
It will be unveiled in August 9 in New York, few days after the IFA 2018 event and is expected to come at a price tag of Rs 65,000 and Rs 80,000 for the base and the top variant respectively. It will be available in Lilac Purple, Coral blue, Midnight Black, Yellow and Brown.
Honor Magic 2 gets TENAA Certification, Hands-on Images Out as well!
The Honor Magic 2 is one of the most anticipated phones of this year due to its bezel-less display and the Mechanical Slider, making it one of the biggest competitors of the upcoming Xiaomi Mi Mix 3. Apart from the leaks and reports we saw in past, the device now has finally received its certification from the Chinese Telecom Regulatory Authority-TENAA. Also, we now have some of the hands-on images of the handset revealing its design and some of the features.
As per the images posted by the Chinese actress Zanilia Zhao on Weibo, the phone comes with an edge-to-edge display at the front with a negligible chin at the bottom. The red colored device bears a glossy glass back which further houses two cameras stacked with an LED flash along with a segregated third camera, reminiscent to the triple cameras on the Huawei P20 Pro. The images are in-line with the previous leaks and also give us a glimpse of the custom virtual assistant named “Yoyo” and the black colored retail box of the phone.
Coming to the TENAA listing, the Honor Magic 2 will sport a 6.39-inch Full HD+ AMOLED display with 2340 ×1080 pixels resolution in a 19:9 aspect ratio. Further, the phone is most likely to feature an In-Display fingerprint scanner for unlocking the device.
Under the hood, the device will be powered by the Huawei’s in-house HiSilicon Kirin 980 flagship chipset coupled with Mali-G76MP10 GPU. Moreover, it will come in two RAM and storage configurations including 6/128GB and 8/256GB which cannot be expanded further due to the lack of an SD card slot.
In the optics department, the Honor Magic 2 will get a triple camera setup at the rear, featuring a 16-megapixel primary shooter, followed by a 24-megapixel secondary shooter and a 16-megapixel telephoto lens with LED flash. While at the front, we’ll have a 16-megapixel shooter with a 20-megapixel and a 2-megapixel shooter with ToF 3D sensing for Face Unlock. If this turns out be a reality, then the Magic 2 will become the world’s first mainstream smartphone to bear a total of six cameras.
On the software front, the phone will run on EMUI 9.0 based on latest Android 9.0 (Pie) and will draw its juice from a 3400mAh battery bundled with a 40-watt Magic Charger.
Moreover, the device will bear connectivity options like 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 ac, Bluetooth 5 LE, GPS, NFC, USB Type-C and will weigh 206grams. Interestingly, the device is expected to pack in a 95% + Screen-to-body ratio due to its minimal bezels and the mechanical sliding mechanism which hides the front cameras and earpiece just like the Oppo Find X (but not motorized).
The Honor Magic 2 is set for the launch on 31st of October. Let us see how does it fare against the Mi Mix 3 which is going launch a few days earlier. Till then, Stay tuned.
Samsung reportedly working on Full Screen Display Tech with Selfie Camera under Display!
Samsung is known for its innovation in the mobile industry, thanks to its huge R&D and a huge stake in the premium smartphone market due to the same. Now, the fresh reports hint that the Korean giant might be working on a new tech which will allow the front camera and other sensors to be embedded under the display.
As we know, the Notch trend started by Apple last year spoiled almost every other new smartphone from the brands like Vivo, Oppo, Xiaomi, and now even OnePlus with the upcoming 6T. Ranging from a wider Notch on the Poco F1 to the little water-drop Notch on Oppo R17 Pro, followed by the Vivo NEX with the pop-up camera module and Oppo Find X with a mechanical slider, most of the mainstream smartphone companies are trying to increase the screen to body ratio and reduce bezels in every possible way they can.
On the other hand, Samsung stayed with its decision of not following Apple, the reason why the S9/S9+ and the Galaxy Note 9 came with slim bezels and skimped on the Notches. Now, the latest tweet by the popular tipster Ice Universe shows us the glimpse of the Samsung OLED Forum conference held in China, on 18th of Oct.
Great news! Samsung established the direction of mobile phone design in 2019!
On October 18th, Samsung Display invited about 20 customers to hold the "2018 Samsung OLED Forum" at the Shenzhen Marriott Hotel in China. At the meeting, Samsung showed a PPT pic.twitter.com/sYu0ORTd6V
— Ice universe (@UniverseIce) October 19, 2018
In the conference, Samsung has been talking about the OLED technologies, to be more specific, about the new under-display features such as in-display fingerprint scanners, under-screen cameras, screen-sound technology, and touch-sensitive technology. Further, it is revealed that they are working on a new display technology that would allow for a practical placement of nearly everything ranging from the Selfie camera to the fingerprint sensor under the display (Samsung recently filed a patent for the Optical fingerprint sensor under the display). This will help the company for achieving a display with nearly 100% screen to body ratio without opting for Notch or any other weird implementations.
#Samsung is working on a new technology trying to hide the front camera underneath the display. My sources told me that there are just a hand full of prototypes using this technology. I don't think we'll see this feature in retail phones until 2020, but who knows 🤷🏽♂️
— SamsungMobile.News | Max (@Samsung_News_) October 18, 2018
Another report by SamMobile says that Samsung’s new OLED display will also be capable of transmitting the audio so that the earpiece too can be fitted under the display, which is most likely going to use the advanced bone conduction technology for transmission of sound like we saw with the original Mi Mix. However, Samsung needs to work hard for making it perfect, yes, the Mix had issues with the same.
The report further adds that the company is even testing certain prototypes for these new technologies. Given that the Galaxy S10 launch is not too far, we can expect a nearly bezel-less display with a handful of the above-discussed innovations and something more like an ultrasonic in-display fingerprint sensor, a night-vision camera and an eye-motion sensor in the device? Well, who knows. Let us wait for the upcoming leaks and reports to reveal more about what Samsung is actually planning to do. Till then, stay tuned.
Honor Magic 2 Leaked in Live Images, Hands-On Video Out as well
Huawei’s sub-brand Honor has been in limelight since long for its upcoming Honor Magic 2. With this new smartphone, the company aims to take on the Xiaomi’s Mix series, competing to make a bezel-less flagship with best possible and practical experience. As teased initially, the device comes with an edge to edge display and a sliding mechanism for cameras just like the Oppo Find X but with a different implementation. We now have the leaked back of the device along with a video which showcases the sliding mechanism of this bezel-less beauty, ahead of the scheduled launch date of October 31.
Let’s talk about the leaked image first which reveals the back side of the alleged Honor Magic 2. As per the image, the device comes with a glossy glass back in black and gradient twilight color options shown here. The back houses a total of three cameras, two cameras along with an LED flash followed by the third segregated lens giving it a look reminiscent of that on the Huawei P20 Pro. The Twilight version has “Honor” branding on the bottom left corner while the black one surprisingly reads “Eiffel”, following the same, the former carries the “AI Vision” branding while the latter reads out “Dual Lens”.
Furthermore, there is no fingerprint scanner present on the back of the handset, which supports the rumors of it having an In-display fingerprint scanner. These images completely smash the possibility of four rear cameras claimed by some previously leaked renders.
You can watch the video showcasing the slider mechanism below:
Also, we recently witnessed the leaked retail box of the device. The black colored matte finish box had the popular car maker Tesla’s branding along with the Honor Magic 2 text at the bottom, hinting at the chances that Huawei might partner up with Tesla to bring in a special Tesla edition of the Magic 2 like they have done in their Mate series i.e. the Mate 10 Porsche and the recently unveiled Mate 20 RS Porche edition.
As of now, we know only limited things about the upcoming Honor Magic 2. Firstly, it is said to bear nearly 100% screen to body ratio which should be somewhere around 95% as per our expectations. Moreover, rumors suggest that the device will sport a 6-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 2880×1440 pixels and a sliding camera mechanism (manually driven, requires to be operated using physical force instead of automated motors) which includes a selfie camera, earpiece, and other sensors to accommodate the full body display at the front.
The device will be powered by the company’s latest flagship 7nm Kirin 980 SoC coupled with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. The camera setup here might function similar to the Mate 20 / Mate 20 Pro’s cameras including a wide angle, a telephoto, and a regular high-resolution RGB lens.
Other leaks hint at the absence of 3.5mm jack and a large graphene-film cooled battery just like the Mate 20. Given that the launch is near, let us wait for 31st of October to know what it was all about, also, let us see if this device slays the Mi Mix 3 which is arriving a few days earlier, on Oct 25. Till then, stay tuned.
