Samsung Galaxy J2 Core is Official! It’s Sammy’s First Android Go Phone.

Samsung has joined the Android Go market with the launch of the Samsung Galaxy J2 Core. The smartphone has been previously subjected to a couple of leaks and rumours. Though the company is yet to reveal the price of the device, a report claims it will go on sale in India and Malaysia and eventually into the other global markets.

 

The Galaxy J2 core features a metal body with a Gold color option but other color options are likely to be available too. It comes with a 5 inch TFT display with a resolution of 590 x 960 pixels and powered by a 14nm Quad-core Exynos 7570 chipset paired with a Mali- T720 MP1 GPU. It is coupled with 1GB RAM and 8GB internal storage with further expandable options with a microSD card.

The device sports an 8MP camera with f/2.2 aperture and LED flash in the rear while there is a 5MP with f/2.2 aperture in the front which comes with a Beauty mode sitting above the display. It runs on Android 8.1 Oreo (Go Edition) but it’s not sure if it will be upgraded to the latest Android Pie Go edition update. The OS comes preloaded with Google’s Go version apps designed to increase speed, demand less storage and efficiency in data usage. It includes the new Google go, Files Go, Gmail Go and also performance optimization to Chrome and Google Play.

The handset is backed by a 2,600 mAh battery. Connectivity options include 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth v4.2, GPS/A-GPS, Micro-USB and a 3.5 mm headphone jack. It measures 143.4 x 72.1 x 8.9 mm and weighs 154 g. There is neither fingerprint sensor nor Face Unlocking to back it up.

Although Samsung have made the phone official, they haven’t revealed the pricing of the phone in India, and also haven’t mentioned anything about the availability.

Xiaomi’s Next Flagships Mi 10, Mi 10 Pro launched in China!

After weeks of leaks and teasers, Xiaomi has officially launched the Mi 10 and the Mi 10 Pro at an online-only launch event in China. The event started with a heartfelt speech about the recent Coronavirus outbreak in China after which Xiaomi co-founder Lei Jun took the stage to unveil the Mi 10.

The Xiaomi Mi 10 series feature a 6.67 inch FHD+ curved OLED display equipped with an in-display fingerprint sensor. Both the devices are powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 chipset paired with 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 512GB of USB 3.0 internal storage. The smartphone packs in a remarkable cooling system with the largest VC heat-dissipating board in any smartphone. The smartphones run MIUI based on Android 10. Connectivity includes dual-mode 5G (SA/NSA), Wi-Fi 6, NFC and Bluetooth v5.0. For charging the devices have a USB Type-C port.

The Mi 10 display has a 90Hz refresh rate and 180Hz touch response for improved performance. It offers a peak brightness of 1120 nits and comes with HDR 10+ support. The rear sports a quad-camera setup consisting of a 108MP camera sensor with a 7 piece lens setup, optical image stabilization, and 8K recording feature. The secondary and tertiary sensors are two 2MP sensors, with one being used for macro images and one for depth sensing. Underneath the camera module, there is a 13MP wide-angle lens with a 123-degree FOV and flicker-free dual-tone LED flash. It is backed by a 4,780 mAh battery with 30-watt fast wired charging, 30-watt fast wireless charging and 10-watt reverse wireless charging.

The Mi 10 Pro features the same display on the Mi 10 but with a peak brightness of 1200 nits. The rear quad camera setup also gets the same 108MP primary sensor but with an 8 piece lens setup and OIS. It is paired with a 20MP ultra-wide sensor with 117-degree FOV and a 6P lens setup, an 8MP telephoto lens with 10X hybrid zoom and OIS and a 12MP portrait lens. Like its smaller sibling, the Mi 10 Pro also supports 8K video recording with OIS and EIS. The MI 10 Pro is backed by a 4,500 mAh battery with support for 50 watts fast wired charging, 30-watt fast wireless charging and 10-watt reverse charging.  

The Xiaomi Mi 10 is pricing starts at CNY 3999 (Rs 40,500 approx) for the 8/128GB variant while the 8/256GB and 12/256GB variant are priced at CNY 4,299 (Rs 43,500 approx) and CNY 4,699 (Rs 48,000 approx) respectively. It will be available in Ice Blue, Titanium Silver Black and Peach Gold color options. The Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro, on the other hand, is available at a starting price of CNY 4,999 (Rs 51,000 approx) for the 8/256GB variant, while the higher-end 12/256GB and 12/512GB variants are priced at CNY 5,499 (Rs 56,000 approx)and CNY 5,999 (Rs 61,000 approx) respectively. It will be available in Starry Blue and Pearl White Color options.

Galaxy S20, S20+ & S20 Ultra Launched! Starts from $999!

Samsung has been teasing the Galaxy S20 flagship series for weeks and has been subjected to multiple leaks. The South Korean manufacturer finally showed off the Galaxy S20, Galaxy S20+ and the Galaxy S20 Ultra at the recent Galaxy Unpacked event at San Francisco. All three smartphones are powered by the same chipset, Snapdragon 865 or Exynos 990 depending on the location.

The base Galaxy S20 is the successor of the last year’s Galaxy S10e. It features a 6.4-inch AMOLED display with an FHD+ resolution (3200 x 1400 pixels) and a 120Hz refresh rate. The slightly larger Galaxy S20+ on the other hand sports a 6.7-inch AMOLED display with the same resolution and refresh rate. The top-of-the-line Galaxy U20 Ultra packs a 6.92-inch display and again with the same resolution and refresh rate.

On the optics, the Galaxy S20 has a triple camera rear setup of a 12MP primary shooter, a 12MP ultra-wide camera and a 64MP 3X telephoto camera and a 10MP selfie shooter. The Galaxy S20+ packs the same camera configuration as the Galaxy S20 while the Galaxy S20 Ultra features a 108MP primary camera, a 12MP ultra-wide camera, a 48MP periscope telephoto camera with 10X optical zoom and a 40MP selfie shooter.

To handle the 108MP camera, Samsung has included up to 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM on the highest-end unit. This makes the Galaxy S20 Ultra the only smartphone with 16GB of RAM. It will be the first smartphone to feature 16GB of RAM, but not for long. Chinese manufacturer Xiaomi will be announcing its flagship Mi 10 line-up just a couple of days from now and the devices are expected to come with 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM. The three device pack in different sizes of batteries with 4,000 mAh on Galaxy S20, 4,500 mAh on the Galaxy S20+ while the Galaxy S20 Ultra is rated at 5,000 mAh.

Redmi 8A Dual Launched in India, along with Redmi Powerbanks!

Redmi 8A arrived a couple of months ago. But now, it has been upgraded a bit and launched in India as Redmi 8A Dual. The keyword ‘Dual’ here doesn’t indicate dual SIM connectivity like ‘DUOS’, a nomenclature used by Samsung a few years ago. Redmi rather has added that to indicate that the phone comes with a dual-camera setup on the back.

Apart from that, the Redmi 8A Dual has pretty modest specs. The phone comes with a 6.22-inch HD+ LCD display, protected by Gorilla Glass 5. The phone is powered by Qualcomm’s entry-level Snapdragon 439 SoC, paired with 2GB or 3GB RAM. There is 32GB onboard storage, which can be expanded up to 512GB using the dedicated microSD slot.

As mentioned earlier, the Redmi 8A Dual comes with a dual-camera setup on the back. There is a 13-megapixel primary camera and along with that, there is a 2-megapixel depth sensor for portraits. On the front, there is an 8-megapixel camera for video calls and selfies. Though there is just a single camera on the front, there is still portrait mode using the software.

The Redmi 8A dual packs a huge 5,000 mAh battery, with support for 18W fast charging. However, in the box of the phone, only a 10W charger is supplied. Despite being a budget phone, the Redmi 8A Dual comes with a USB-C port for charging and data transfer. The Redmi 8A Dual also supports reverse charging so that users can use it to charge other phones. In terms of connectivity, the phone offers the typical options, along with support for VoWiFi for making calls using WiFi for those who are on Jio or Airtel.

In terms of pricing, the Redmi 8A dual is priced at Rs. 6,499 for the base model with 2GB RAM and 32GB storage, whereas the 3GB RAM with 32GB storage variant is priced at Rs. 6,999.

Along with the Redmi 8A Dual, two new power banks have also been launched. The newly launched Redmi power banks come with two capacities- 10000mAh and 20000mAh. The 10000mAh power bank can offer a charging speed of up to 10W whereas the 20000mAh power bank has 18W fast charging capabilities.

Both of these power banks use Lithium Polymer cells, instead of Lithium-Ion which results in higher density. Both the power banks will go on sale starting February 18. The 10000mAh power bank is priced at just Rs. 799 while the 20000mAh model is priced at Rs. 1499.
