Samsung today announced the world’s first smartphone Samsung Galaxy A8s with a cut-out notch containing the camera in the display beating the likes of Huawei Nova 4, Honor View 20 and Lenovo Z5s. The Korean giant calls it Samsung Infinity-O display which was first announced in the Samsung Developers Conference (SDC).
The Galaxy A8’s in-display camera is not the only defining feature of the smartphone. It is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 chipset coupled with either 6GB or 8GB RAM with a 128GB internal storage which can further expanded with a microSD card up to 512GB.
The Galaxy A8s features a 6.4 inch display with a resolution of FHD+ (2340 x 1080 pixels) and an aspect ratio of 19:5:9. There screen type is not mentioned and since the company didn’t mention anything about Super AMOLED we can assume it’s an old IPS LCD screen. The device is almost bezeless with a small chin.
The device sports a triple camera setup at the rear consists of primary 24MP camera with f/1.7 aperture and a secondary 10MP telephoto lens with f/2.4 aperture. The third lens is a 5MP with f/2.2 and used only for measuring depth. The front camera of 24MP with f/2.0 aperture is concealed in a camera hole in the display that is 6.7 mm wide and placed on the top left corner.
The handset runs Android 8.1 Oreo out-of-the-box and is backed by a 3,400 mAh battery with adaptive fast charging support over USB type-C. It will be available in Blue, Gray and Green color options and can be pre-ordered until December 21 in China while the actual sales will likely to happen after that.
