Samsung Galaxy A70 and Galaxy A90 are speculated to be the first devices by the company to feature the new Infinity displays showcased at the Samsung Developers Conference (SDC 2018) last week. The South Korean manufacturer revealed four types of Infinity displays of which three came with various notches.

The two smartphones appears to be the first models to have a display notch since the company has managed without notch by including the Infinity Display design having thin bezels on the side but significant space for front camera and sensors at the top and a chin on the bottom.

Now, Russian tipster Eldar Murtazin claims that the Galaxy A90 and Galaxy A70 sporting the new Infinity Display panels will debut in February next year. They are supposed to be the successors to the Galaxy A7 (2018) and the Galaxy A9 (2018) models which debuted with triple cameras and quad cameras at the rear respectively. They are expected to be priced competitively despite being an upgrade.

Samsung revealed three type of notches: Infinity-U, Infinity-V and Infinity-O with the letters named after the shape in which they are cut out from the regular screen space. It is not clear which type of design will be included in the Galaxy A70 and Galaxy A90. However the company teased its Galaxy A8s with the Infinity-O display hole design. The notchless display is likely available to premium Galaxy Series handsets like the Galaxy S10. Ben Geskin who is known for visualising rumours and leaked design render, recently posted an images showing the four types of new Infinity Display. It gives an idea what to expect from upcoming Samsung devices.

A recent report from South’s Korea’s ETNews claims that Galaxy A family in 2019 will get LCD panel-sporting modes. The current A-series models have an AMOLED display to deliver a comparable experience with vivid colours and deep black levels. The company is also reported planning to stop its Galaxy J series bringing a possibility of new affordable models. The report specified that that Galaxy A30, Galaxy A40, Galaxy 70, Galaxy A80 will come with AMOLED display panels while the Galaxy A50 and Galaxy A60 will have LCD panels.

The OLED and LCD models are said to be released in markets like Korea, North America while the LCD models are for the price-sensitive markets like India and some other Southeast Asian markets. The ultimate aim is to bring down the costs of the devices lower than KRW 3,00,000 (Rs 19,300 approx).

Poco F1 gets a permanent Price Cut! All Variants are now priced Rs.1000 Lower.

Published

on

Xiaomi announced the first smartphone under its new sub-brand POCO back in August. The Poco F1 was a hit and took the world by storm. It was initially  priced at Rs 20,999 and made available through flash sales but later the Chinese manufacturer started an open sale. It is now available through Mi Store, Flipkart and Mi Home stores. Ahead of this year ending, the company has announced a permanent price cut or the device.

The 6GB RAM and 64GB internal storage variant was priced at 20,990 while the same variant with 128GB on-board storage was priced Rs 23,999. The highest variant with 8GB RAM and 256GB internal storage came with a price tag of RS 28,999. However, starting today all the variants of the smartphone are going to cost 1,000 less which means the starting price of the smartphone will be Rs 19,990 while the other two will be costing Rs 22,999 and 27,999 respectively. The slashing of the price is permanent, which means you don’t have to worry about the price going up later on.

The device was already in demand and with the price cut, the sales are expected to go higher. Xiaomi also announced in its official twitter account that the Poco F1 has crossed the 7,00,000 users mark. To celebrate this occasion, the company is taking Rs 1,000 off of all Poco variants. Though this is a great move, several users who have recently purchased the phone have taken to the forms and Twitter to complain about the price drop. However, this is simply a marketing move to increase the sales now that all the hype of the Pocophone has settled down.

The Poco F1 features a 6.2 inch display and is powered by a SD 845. It sports a dual camera setup of 12MP + 5MP and a 20MP selfie camera. A top notch at the front houses an infrared camera for 3D facial recognition. It is backed by a 4,000 mAh battery and runs on MIUI 10 based on Android 8.1 Nougat. It recently received a new software update including features like slow motion at 960FPS and super-low light recording mode. The beta version of the MIUI 10 based on Android 9 Pie was rolled out recently and expected to be available to a wider audience by this month or early January.

WizPhone ain’t a Google Phone! It’s just a Feature phone with Google Apps built in, Nothing more.

wizphone google

It was widely reported earlier that Google has stepped into the feature phone market by launching the WizPhone Wp006 in Indonesia, priced at IDR 99,000, equivalent to Rs.500. The WizPhone WP006 is a 4G feature phone which runs on Kai OS.

But the catch is, Google didn’t launch the phone nor Google owns the WizPhone brand or even had involvement in developing or manufacturing the phone.

What made this news go viral was caused by this tweet:

That gave wrong impression that Google announced the WizPhone, as if Google themselves launched it. Google did took part in the launch of the phone and they did announce it jointly, but that was about the Google Assistant and the whole suite of Google Apps inclusion in the phone.

Also, take a look on Google’s Indonesian blog post here. What it says is:

WizPhone is the first Indonesian-made mobile phone equipped with Google Assistant. Created jointly by WizPhone and Alfamart, WizPhone uses KaiOS.

Also, KaiOS said this in its blog post.

“Google has also been instrumental in this launch by ensuring their digital services operate on the WizPhone via the KaiStore, so consumers have access to a suite of Google apps, including the Google Assistant, Google Maps, and Google Search. Further, the Google Assistant works in Bahasa Indonesia, bridging the digital divide by allowing users to easily access the internet and apps through voice,”

So you can see, the phone is clearly not made by Google, it’s just a phone that Google had involvement in, but not the type of involvement that everyone reported it to be having.

The WizPhone is similar to the JioPhone one, which also runs on Kai OS and supports 4G. While the Jiophone costs nearly Rs.1500, the WizPhone is priced very much cheaper than that.

The WizPhone WP006 features a 2.4-inch display and is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8905 processor paired with an Adreno 304 GPU. It comes with 512MB of RAM along with 4GB of internal storage. There is a 2MP camera in the rear and a VGA camera in the front for video calling. The device draws it’s juice from a 1,800mAh battery.

It comes with Google services like Google Assistant, Google Maps, Google Search and others pre-installed. As said in the beginning, it also supports popular apps such as Whatsapp, Facebook, Youtube and so on. It must also be noted that Google has made investments into KaiOS, which indicates that Google is really preparing to make some moves in the 4G smart feature phone market.

Consumers in Indonesia can buy the WizPhone WP006 from vending machines at Alfamart stores, a chain of convenience stores in Indonesia. Consumers can use the pre-installed All-Wiz app to buy products from Alphamart stores by scanning QR codes, barcodes and making payments.

Xiaomi to launch a new device with 48 MP cameras in January

Xiaomi is planning to level up its camera next year. The cameras on its flagship devices are already quite good but it seems like they have found some room for improvement.

The president of Xiaomi Lin Bin published a post on Weibo regarding the company’s plans to release a new smartphone with a massive 48 MP camera. The device is expected to arrive in the first month of 2019 and he has mentioned it in the post. The handset will run on MIUI 10.

The post read “Trying for a few weeks, not bad!”, but the post comes from the Mi MIX 3. This means that the camera used in this device is a successor to the one we have seen on the Mi Mix 3. An image has also been attached along with the post. Take a look at the image below.48MP-sensor-xiaomi

It looks like this could be a new flagship device but it is not clear which series it belongs to. From the image, it is possible that the device might feature vertically stacked dual rear cameras each sporting a 48 MP sensor. The rear is made of glass and has an integrated volume button, and a dual color temperature flash.

The probabilities of this 48 MP sensor are either Sony IMX586 or Samsung ISOCELL Plus GM1. The IMX586’s specifications include a 1/2-inch sensor, 0.8μm per pixel, support for four-pixel synthesis, and video support up to 4K 90FPS. The Samsung GM1 also comes with a 0.8μm unit and supports four-pixel synthesis which is equivalent to 12MP pixels and a single pixel size of 1.6μm.

Xiaomi might have used Sony’s sensor since Samsung’s sensor is still in the production stage. Qualcomm had announced the list of brands which will come with Snapdragon 855 chipset made of 7 nm process in early 2019. This hints about the presence of Snapdragon 855 chipset in this device but it is not confirmed yet. Stay tuned for more updates.
