While 2018 had its fair share of in-screen fingerprint reader smartphones, they seem to fall short of the lofty standards set by their predecessors. Samsung has been using the fingerprint sensors for almost five years but the company may soon make the switch to a new in-display sensor that uses ultrasonic waves.
The technology was first thought to debut on the Samsung Galaxy S10 but now a report suggests that it could see it on a A-series smartphone called Galaxy A10 . From an industry source cited by PhoneArena, Samsung will release their ultrasonic in-screen fingerprint sensor with the Galaxy A10. The Korean giant has withheld temptation to use an optical sensor up till now and now the handset will be the first one to come with an in-screen sensor. Apart from this little info, there isn’t much about the device though it is expected to be placed over the recently announced Galaxy A9 (2018) which will bridge the gap between the Galaxy A series and Samsung S10 series next year.
The same source has previously mentioned that Samsung will be announced a Galaxy A-series handset powered by Snapdragon 845 and the Galaxy A10 could be the same device since the Galaxy A8s already sports a SD 710 SoC. The launch date is still a mystery but the company is expected to release the device in early January, possibly in the same time frame as the Galaxy M series. If not, the next logical announcement will be in MWC (Mobile World Congress) 2019.
