Xiaomi recently spun off it’s budget series, Redmi as a sub brand. The now independent Redmi is ready to launch its first smartphone which will be a 48MP camera phone. The Chinese brand today posted a new Weibo post which confirms the handset is codenamed as “Little King Kong”. The embedded video further reveals that it will come with a highly durable glass body.
The Redmi phones that were previously launched so far featured metallic chassis but this phone sports a glass rear. In the video, Xiaomi employees are seen stamping on the phone but with no effect. It successfully passed the entire torture test without any damage.
Take a look at the video here:
From the attached video, the handset will have a waterdrop notch display while the rear panel houses a dual camera setup and a fingerprint sensor. It is likely the same device that was recently certified from TENAA certification agency in China. The listing revealed that it will have a 6.3 inch FHD+ display and will be backed by a 3,900 mAh battery.
A new poster has also surfaced in Weibo showing the front and rear design of the device. The poster shows the same waterdrop display while the chin is not visible because of the Chinese texts overlaid on it. There is a plain Black color option along with two gradient color option of blue-violet and purple pink. Below the dual camera setup, we can see a LED flash along with a “48MP AI dual camera”. The 48MP camera is said to offer 4 times pixels than the regular smartphones.
According to the rumours, it will be the first smartphone with the Snapdragon 675 chipset. Though the company is yet to announce its name, speculations range from Redmi Note 7 to Redmi Pro 2. The Redmi Note 7 was recently benchmarked in GeekBench with SD 660 which supports up to 25MP camera. The mysterious 48MP Redmi smartphone will be revealed on January 10.
