Xiaomi launched the Redmi Pro at an event back in July 2016 and we haven’t seen a successor of the handset until now. It seems the Chinese manufacturer is planning an upgrade in 2019. The successor which will be named Redmi Pro 2 is expected to arrive soon as teasers have already started cropping up in Weibo revealing the details of the smartphone.
The upcoming Redmi Pro 2 will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 chipset as per the teasers. This may be the same phone with 48MP camera that Xiaomi has been teasing lately. It was confirmed by Xiaomi president Lin Bin and will go official in January 2019. At the Qualcomm 4G/5G summit in October, Xiaomi Global VP and India Head Manu Kumar Jain revealed the device to house a SD 675. Furthermore, a report from last week claimed that it will be a part of the new Redmi series and feature a cut-out display hole containing the selfie camera like the ones seen on the recently launched Samsung Galaxy A8s.
The display on the 48MP camera device is expected to be LCD unit manufactured by BOE China. It might also be sporting a triple camera setup in the rear with one of the sensors being a super wide-angle lens.
This phone’s predecessor, Xiaomi Redmi Pro was the company’s first smartphone to feature a dual camera setup of 13MP primary camera with f/2.0 aperture and 5MP depth sensor. It was powered by a deca-core MediaTek Helio X25 chipset paired with Mali-T8890 with 4GB RAM.
