Yesterday, a mysterious phone from Xiaomi was spotted on MIIT (Ministry of Industry and Information Technology) database. There were speculations that a new phone from Xiaomi may be on its way, powered by the new MediaTek G90T. We had guessed that the phone could be either Poco F2 or the Redmi Note 8. But today, Redmi General Manager himself has confirmed that the Redmi Note 8 is coming soon.
A couple of Mi fans asked Lu Weibing, the GM for Redmi if the Redmi Note 8 is under development and though, most company executives don’t always directly reply to such queries, he did. He replied that the Redmi Note 8 is coming soon and what he mentioned, though a bit vague, means somewhat like it would crush the competitors. That means we may see a Redmi Note 8 will compete against others with way better specs and features.
It is still not sure whether the Redmi Note 8 would be powered by MediaTek’s new G90T chipset or anything else. There is no word regarding Poco lineup or Poco F2 from the Xiaomi officials yet. Xiaomi has already revealed its plans to introduce a phone with a 64-megapixel camera and surprisingly MediaTek G90T supports 64-megapixel camera as well.
The MediaTek G90T is a chipset build for gaming- At least that’s the general perception most people have right now from what the chipset maker said during the launch of the G90 Series chipsets. The MediaTek G90T is an octa-core processor with two ARM Cortex-A76 cores and six Cortex-A55 cores, with a clock speed of 2.05GHz. The MediaTek G90T also makes sense for a gaming phone because the chipset can support up to 10GB LPDDR4 RAM, full-HD+ display with up to 21:9 aspect ratio and 90Hz display refresh rate. We wouldn’t be surprised if Xiaomi decided to turn the Redmi Note series into a budget gaming phone lineup, because others are already doing it, and selling their phones well.
