Redmi Note 7 Launched

The old Redmi is back!

Yes, you heard it right.

Xiaomi has been getting heat from customers for increasing the prices on their phones to the level that they’re not the most value for money options now that Asus & Realme is here. Their recent phones, Asus Zenfone Max Pro M2, Realme 2 Pro & Realme U1 for an example.

Now that Redmi is a sub brand, it looks like Xiaomi is looking to take their crown back. The pricing of Redmi Note 7 and the features of it seems to point to just that.

The Redmi Note 7 is the first phone from Redmi sub-brand. And it comes with a whole new design language, which we could say is inspired from Huawei & Honor phones. It comes with a gradient glass back and comes in these colour options: Blue, red, black and a purplish “twilight” gradient.

The Redmi Note 7 comes with a 6.3 inch FHD+ LTPS LCD TPS dis with a dew drop notch. The glass on the phone is a Gorilla Glass 5 one.

The phone is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 SoC clocked at 2.2Ghz. So it’s not the underclocked version of the chipset that we saw in Asus Zenfone Max Pro M2 & Realme 2 Pro.

In other stories:  Redmi Note 7 is almost Waterproof! Has Watertight Seals for all Ports & Buttons.

It comes in three variants: 3/32GB, 4/64GB, 6/64GB of RAM & internal storages.

Talking about the cameras, here’s the part that Xioami kept teasing. The phone comes with a primary 48MP camera, which is a Samsung GM1 sensor. This one is paired with a 5MP depth sensor. And on the front, it comes with a 13MP camera.

The phone is backed up by 4000mAh battery which supports Quick Charge 4.0. The phone also packs type C USB port, a first for Redmi series. It also does not skip on IR blaster too.

Coming to pricing, the phone is priced very aggressively, with the 3/32GB variant going for 999 Yuan (Rs.10.5K INR), and the 4/64GB is priced at 1199Yuan (Rs.12.5k INR) where as the 6/64GB variant is priced at 1399Yuan(14.5k INR).

As of now, we’re not sure when the phone will be launching in India. As it’s a Redmi Note device, we can expect the phone to be coming to India soon enough.

OPPO Showcases 10x Hybrid Optical Zoom & a Bigger UD Fingerprint Scanner

oppo hybrid 10x zoom

OPPO in an event today showcased a 10X camera setup implementing three sensors along with a bigger in-screen fingerprint scanner area. The event didn’t include any smartphone launch or demo of some sort but the Chinese manufacturer promised more in the MWC 2019 event next month.

The 10X hybrid optical zoom technology works by combining its 5X optical zoom with a wide- angle lens that combines to give a 10 times zoom. There is a third camera sensor in the middle for regular snaps but it doesn’t affect the zoom range. The company representatives’ reveals that the module covers the 35mm equivalent of 15.9-159mm focal length. To give you an idea, Huawei’s Mate 20 Pro’s triple camera boasts 16mm to 80mm in 25mm terms.

The new OPPO camera module includes Dual OIS (Optical Image Stabilization) for the main camera and telephoto lens. To build this camera setup, 100+ R&D patients were used and was drop tested 28,000 times. The first samples will be made available in the MWC event in Barcelona. The company promised that this tech will ship to manufacturers this year.

OPPO has also made developments in its display technology with the announcement of a bigger under-display fingerprint scanner similar to the one Lin Bin of Xiaomi introduced earlier today. The new sensor boasts an area 15 times larger than the current one in OPPO R17 and can detect two fingers at same time. Though there was a similar technology with the Vivo APEX concept last year it was not market ready.

A senior OPPO executive calls the technology the new “biometric experience” and is expected to hit the markets and smartphones by the end of this year meaning the company might showcase an early OPPO R19 at MWC 2019 to be held from February 25 to February 28.
