Redmi 6A 6 6 Pro

Xiaomi has finally launched its new budget Redmi 6-series in India that was launched in China sometime ago. Now, the company has landed its Redmi 6A, Redmi 6 and a notched Redmi 6 Pro in the country with an introductory price for first two months.

Interestingly, the former two come with Mediatek SoC’s which became possible only after the removal of ban on use of Mediatek chipsets by Xiaomi in India after settlement of patent infringement lawsuit filed by Ericsson back in 2014. Let’s discuss about the device specifications and features.

Redmi 6A

The Redmi 6A is the most inexpensive smartphone in this series.

It comes with a 5.45 inch HD+ display, which is an upgrade over Redmi 5A which had 5 inch HD+ display.

It is powered by the new Helio A22 chipset, which is a big improvement over the Snapdragon 425 SoC from Redmi 5A, or at least how Xiaomi claims it to be. One major advantage of Helio A22 is that it is based on 12nm process, which means much better thermal performance and efficiency. Also it supports Dual VoLTE, dual standby. It is powered by a measly 3000mAh battery, but with the 12nm chipset, it should last more than 5A.

Talking about the cameras, the Redmi 6A comes with a 13MP rear camera with flash and a 5MP front camera. One interesting fact about the phone is that it supports EIS on rear camera, which is unseen in the budget segment. Also there is presence of raise to wake and face unlock.

The Redmi 6A comes in Black, Gold, Rose Gold, and Blue colour options and is priced at Rs 5,999 for 2GB RAM and 16GB storage variant, while the higher model with 32GB internal storage is pitted at Rs 6,999. It will go on sale on Amazon India as well as Mi.com on 19th September at 12PM.

Redmi 6A Specifications

  • 5.45 inch HD+ display
  • Mediatek A22 SoC
  • 2GB RAM
  • 16/32GB internal storage
  • 13MP rear camera
  • 5MP front camera
  • 3000mAh battery

Redmi 6

The Redmi 6 succeeds the Redmi 5 that came a couple of months ago. Like Redmi 6A, Redmi 6 comes with a 5.45 inch HD+ display, which marks the Redmi series’ re-entry into compact form-factor. As Redmi 5 wasn’t really a compact phone as it came with a 5.7 inch display, which saw the compact form factor thing taken away from Redmi series.

It is powered by Mediatek Helio P22 chipset, which is comparable to Snapdragon 625 in terms of CPU power going by the raw specs, but not so much on GPU power. It is also based on 12nm chipset and supports Dual VoLTE Dual standby. This phone is also backed up by a 3000mAh battery, which really is a downgrade from 3,300mAh battery.

Coming to the optics, Redmi 6 comes with 12+5MP rear camera setup, which supports AI camera modes. It has a 5MP selfie camera on the front. This phone also has EIS and face unlock with raise to wake.

The Redmi 6 is available in Black, Gold, Blue, and Rose Gold color options and costs Rs 7,999 for 3GB/32GB variant, whereas, the 64GB version of the device is priced at Rs 9,499. Unlike the other two, this will be sold exclusively via Flipkart starting from September 10 at 12 noon.

Redmi 6 Specifications

  • 5.45 inch HD+ display
  • Mediatek P22 SoC
  • 3/4GB RAM
  • 32/64GB internal storage
  • 12+5MP dual rear camera
  • 5MP front camera
  • 3000mAh battery

Redmi 6 Pro

The Redmi 6 Pro is the top end model in the Redmi 6 series. It comes with a 5.84 inch FHD+ notched display and will be competing with the recently launched Realme 2 and Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1.

Interestingly, it is not powered by a Mediatek processor, but comes with the all too familiar Snapdragon 625 SoC. Yes, the same one from Redmi Y2, Redmi Note 5, Mi A1, Redmi Note 4 and numerous other Xiaomi phones we saw over the time.

Redmi 6 Pro comes with a dual camera setup on the back similar to that of Redmi Note 5 Pro & Redmi Y2. It is a 12MP Sony IMX486 sensor coupled with 5MP secondary unnamed Samsung sensor. On the front, there is a 5MP selfie shooter.

The 3/32GB model of the Redmi 6 Pro costs Rs, 10,999, while its 4/64GB variant is priced at 12,999 in India. It comes in Red, Black, Gold, and Blue colors and this one too will be sold on Amazon India and Mi.com just like the Redmi 6A, starting from from 12 PM on September 11.

Redmi 6 Pro Specifications

  • 5.84-inch FHD+ display
  • Snapdragon 625
  • 12MP+5MP Dual Rear Cameras
  • 5MP Front Camera
  • 3/4GB RAM
  • 32/64GB internal storage
  • 4000mAh battery

All the three devices come with an introductory price for first two months, meaning Xiaomi may hike the price afterwards like they did with the Redmi Note 5 Pro. Interestingly, customers having HDFC Bank debit/credit cards can avail an extra Rs.500 discount on the purchase of Redmi 6 and Redmi 6 Pro.

OPPO Showcases 10x Hybrid Optical Zoom & a Bigger UD Fingerprint Scanner

oppo hybrid 10x zoom

OPPO in an event today showcased a 10X camera setup implementing three sensors along with a bigger in-screen fingerprint scanner area. The event didn’t include any smartphone launch or demo of some sort but the Chinese manufacturer promised more in the MWC 2019 event next month.

The 10X hybrid optical zoom technology works by combining its 5X optical zoom with a wide- angle lens that combines to give a 10 times zoom. There is a third camera sensor in the middle for regular snaps but it doesn’t affect the zoom range. The company representatives’ reveals that the module covers the 35mm equivalent of 15.9-159mm focal length. To give you an idea, Huawei’s Mate 20 Pro’s triple camera boasts 16mm to 80mm in 25mm terms.

The new OPPO camera module includes Dual OIS (Optical Image Stabilization) for the main camera and telephoto lens. To build this camera setup, 100+ R&D patients were used and was drop tested 28,000 times. The first samples will be made available in the MWC event in Barcelona. The company promised that this tech will ship to manufacturers this year.

OPPO has also made developments in its display technology with the announcement of a bigger under-display fingerprint scanner similar to the one Lin Bin of Xiaomi introduced earlier today. The new sensor boasts an area 15 times larger than the current one in OPPO R17 and can detect two fingers at same time. Though there was a similar technology with the Vivo APEX concept last year it was not market ready.

A senior OPPO executive calls the technology the new “biometric experience” and is expected to hit the markets and smartphones by the end of this year meaning the company might showcase an early OPPO R19 at MWC 2019 to be held from February 25 to February 28.
