Realme to Debut on Southeast Asian Markets Soon, to Launch more Devices too!

Recently Realme split up ways with Oppo to become an independent brand just like OnePlus. The brand has sold four lakh smartphones in just 40 days in the Indian market. Now it has set eyes on other international markets which will happen in the next few months.

Madhav Seth, CEO of Realme said:

We have sold around four lakh in 40 days and now we are planning  to expand our reach to Southeast Asia in the next few months

He added, 

We are the only brand right now who is having 4.5 rating on Amazon and our DNA helped us a lot to achieve that.

We are targeting youth, first-time office goers, tech-savvy and those who can compare products.

On Oppo-Realme split, Seth replied that they are a part of Oppo and added Realme is just a separate company like OnePlus. He further confirmed that it is not a separation as they still share the same DNA with just different ideologies. He clarified that by saying this he means same quality.

The company plans to launch four more smartphones within the price Rs 5,000 to Rs 20,000 by the end of this year which means we will be  seeing Realme get their hands on the mid-range segment. As for recent changes, Ski Li former Vice President of Oppo had officially announced last week that he has now joined Realme a Global CEO. His email to the employees introduced the new company and said that the brand was born last year.

So far Realme has launched only one smartphone Realme 1 with three variants that went sale exclusively on Amazon India. Though it was a budget phone, Realme went ahead to bring a diamond textured back with diamond black, solar red and limited edition moonlight silver color options to appeal the youths. However it was one of the first smartphones to miss out a fingerprint sensor with support for Face Unlock.

Vivo introduces their Sub-brand iQOO!

Following the footsteps of Chinese brands like Xiaomi, Huawei, ZTE and OPPO, Vivo today unveiled the new sub-brand iQOO in its home-market. The company is yet to release more details of the sub-brand, but like other smartphone brands it could be targeting one specific consumer or price segment. Though sub-brands are common industry, it is seen only on a few smartphone brands. Most customers don’t even realise the two particular brands have the same parent company.

Vivo announced its sub-brand iQOO via a new profile on Chinese networking site Weibo and will join the likes of Honor by Huawei, Poco and Redmi by Xiaomi, Realme by OPPO, Nubia by ZTE and Zuk by Lenovo. The teaser didn’t have much information apart from giving a futuristic feel.

It is speculated that Vivo created iQOO to focus only on the 5G and other flagship handsets that are priced around CNY 5,000 (Rs 53,000 approx). Or it could be a gaming brand considering the rising popularity and increasing fan base. It will be clear after Vivo provides us with more details.

The new sub-brand’s website iqoo.com is up, but it only have some information about the company and nothing about its latest development. The company recently unveiled a new brand identity of its main brand with a new slightly tweaked logo and revamped ‘Vivo Blue’ color. Senior Vice President of Vivo Spark Ni says

Vivo has evolved from a follower to a leader in the tech and lifestyle industry. Through the new branding, we hope to redefine the brand’s positioning in technology and innovation and express our brand vision of ‘enjoying the extraordinary’ with young consumers around the world through Vivo’s unique visuals and creative spirit.

We expect Vivo to release the details of its new sub-brand iQOO soon. The first wave of smartphone may be showcased at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2019 event.

Xiaomi patents a True Bezel-less Phone with 4 Side Edge Display!

Xiaomi is driven by its bold innovative culture and has rolled out a number of groundbreaking technologies in the past that made debut in its latest flagship smartphone series. Now, the Chinese manufacturer has patented a smartphone design on the Global Design Database of the World Intellectual Property Office (WIPO) as first reported by LetsGoDigital.

The new patent describes a full-screen smartphone without bezels that customers have been wishing for a long time. Many manufacturers have achieved nearly no-bezel design with the cut-out hole notch, but we are yet to see a smartphone that is 100% bezel-free. The smartphone exactly does that and comes with rounded edges.

Smartphones with dual edge curved displays are common as found on Samsung Galaxy models. Xiaomi used the double curved edge design on the Mi Note 2 back in 2016. But, this design seem to completely different and all the four edges are curved both on the display and rear end. The design enables the device to utilise a bezel-less form and eliminating the need for a slider.

Interestingly, there are no buttons on the side which means it could go for the same concept as Meizu Zero that uses pressure sensitive volume and power button. There is a horizontally placed dual camera setup at the rear placed at the top left but no selfie camera. It is unclear how the smartphone will include the selfie camera on the display without any notch or bezels. There is no visible fingerprint sensor which mkkeans it will incorporate an in-display fingerprint sensor. It has a USB-Type C port for charging.

The unnamed Xiaomi smartphone is currently just a concept and may take some time to reach to the market. However, it may make an appearance at the Xiaomi annual product launch event. Last year, the event was held on May where the Mi 8, Mi 8 SE and MIUI 10 made their first appearance.

Microsoft prepares to End support for Windows 10 Mobile this Year

When Nokia launched the Lumia range of smartphones running on the Windows operating system years ago, they made quiet a wave. Later, Microsoft took over and continued the production of the Lumia from Nokia. The Lumia range of smartphones did find a lot of buyers and had some of the finest smartphones of the time.

But, Microsoft couldn’t keep up with the Android and iOS trends and eventually died out. Now reports states that Microsoft is preparing to end support for the Windows 10 Mobile by the end of this year.

Microsoft has asked the users of Windows 10 mobiles to switch to an Android or iOS device as it announced the end of support for Windows 10 Mobile. The news doesn’t come as a surprise as Joe Belfiore, Corporate Vice President of Windows 10, had made clear that they wont be focusing on new features or hardware for Windows 10 Mobile back in 2017.

In an “End of Support” page, the tech giant told users that Windows 10 Mobile will stop receiving new security updates after December 10. While the news was expected, it comes as a blow as several peoples are still using the windows mobile across the world, owing to its build quality and performance.

“With the Windows 10 Mobile OS end of support, we recommend that customers move to a supported Android or iOS device. Microsoft’s mission statement to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more, compels us to support our Mobile apps on those platforms and devices,” the company wrote in the support page late on Friday.

The New York City Police Department (NYPD) scrapped as many as 36,000 windows mobiles used by the law enforcers back in 2017 after Microsoft acknowledged that it’s support will be ending. In an other statement, Microsoft also made clear that their Virtual Assistant Cortana is no longer in direct competition with Google Assistant and Amazon’s Alexa.
