Razer has launched the successor of the gaming smartphone Razer Phone today. The handset is named Razer Phone 2 and it packs a lot of impressive features for being a new flagship gaming device. The company has not followed the 2018’s smartphone design trend has decided to be unique with its design. It has a boxy form factor which it had inherited from the Nextbit Robin.
In the age of bezel-less devices and notched screens, Razer still follows its 16:9 aspect ratio which feels a bit outdated, yet a go-to phone for people who hate notches on smartphones. The display of the Razer Phone is a 5.72-inch 120Hz UltraMotion Display which is brighter than its predecessor and has zero lag on using it. It offers a buttery smooth touch experience to users.
Under the hood, the handset is powered by the Snapdragon 845 processor, the latest offering for flagship devices from Qualcomm. To keep the gaming experience uninterrupted by heat, the device features a vapor chamber cooling system that allows heat to spread throughout the phone thereby cooling down the handset and prevent performance throttling.
The handset is not only good for gaming but also is a great choice for media consumption. The dual front-facing stereo speakers feature Dolby Atmos and dual amplifiers. The company has omitted the headphone jack but there is a 24-bit USB-C DAC.
In terms of camera, there are dual 12 MP rear cameras – one being a wide angle lens and another one is a telephoto lens. The front camera is an 8 MP shooter with f/2.0 aperture. The fingerprint sensor is mounted on the side of the device which doubles as a power button. The rear of the phone is made of glass, which means that it now supports wireless charging. The coolest feature of the handset is the presence of Razer Chroma RGB logo which dynamically changes colors for notifications according to the app which sends the notification.
The device is now rated with IP67 water resistance which was lacking in the previous generation Razer Phone. There will be 8 GB of RAM to ensure smooth performance and multitasking. 64 GB internal storage is present on the device which can be further expanded up to 1 TB with the help of a micro SD card.
The Razer Phone 2 runs on a 4000 mAh battery with support for Qualcomm QuickCharge 4.0+. The device runs Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box and is expected to receive Pie soon. It is priced at $799 and is available to buy right now. Mirror Black and Satin Black are the color variants available.
