OnePlus 6T to be available Offline through Reliance Digital Stores!

oneplus logo

Ahead of the OnePlus 6T launch, OnePlus has joined hands with Reliance Digital in a bid to “elevate customer experience in India”. The team-up will mean that OnePlus aims to increase its offline presence in the country to attract more customers who wants to purchase directly from the shop.

After this partnership, prospective buyers will be able to experience and buy OnePlus products from the Reliance Digital stores spread throughout the country. They will also get additional benefit from the promotional campaign run by the Reliance Digital stores.

Vikas Agarwal, General Manager of OnePlus India spoke on the announcement

The premium smartphone segment in India is steadily growing, and OnePlus seeks to more effectively tap into this space, with a nifty strategy combining both online and offline platforms for a holistic reach. This partnership with Reliance Digital will equip OnePlus with a more robust physical presence, enabling the brand to cater to its increasing user base through multiple touch points across cities. The focus on curating only the best user experience by Reliance Digital resonates with that of OnePlus’ user philosophy.

This isn’t the first OnePlus attempt on offline market. The company previously partnered with Tata-backed retail chain Croma for the sales of OnePlus devices in offline market. Other than that, the company also invested in opening its OnePlus Experience stores in selected locations across the country so that users can try out OnePlus device before purchasing them online.

OnePlus CEO Pete Lau mentioned in an interview last month that company was looking to boost its offline sales channels in India as it accounted for one-third of the company’s net revenue in the country. Thus the recent partnership will surely help OnePlus to reach its benchmark in offline sales.

[UPDATE: Confirmed Not True] Xiaomi Might Stop Unlocking Bootloaders of their Phones.

mi logo

We’ve a brand new shocking story about Xiaomi devices, which can change the course of Xiaomi devices for ever if true.

Xiaomi might stop allowing boot loader unlock for their devices (for specific devices or all of them).

We’ve got our hands on a leaked internal screenshot of a chat with Chinese Xiaomi software team, by a Redmi Note 5/Redmi Note 5 Pro Dev. Take a look at it, and the translation of that is given below:

SIM card requirements, and need to wait for a certain period of time, the rules are as follows: 1, after binding the account and the device, 2018-08. 31 00:00:00 before the model to 15 days (360 hours) can be unlocked 2, All phones bound from 2018-08-31 00:00:00 need to wait for 15 days to adjust to 30 days. The waiting time for binding before this time is still 15 days. 3, for security reasons, prevent batches. Brushing, the waiting time is adjusted to 60 days for the user’s binding. 4.   From December 1st, 2018, the Bootloader unlock service will be closed.  For security reasons, it will be upgraded from the MIUI10 stable version and cannot be downgraded to 1 (except in special cases).

What it basically means is that, the bootloader unlock time might be extended to 30 days and from December 1st 2018, the bootloader unlocking will be closed.

Well, that is pretty shocking considering the fact that Xiaomi devices have historically got the most developer support in the industry. Their current phones such as Redmi Note 5 Pro & POCO F1 has one of the most active development community in XDA.

Now, this comes from a whyred dev (code name for Redmi Note 5 Pro/Redmi Note 5 Global Variant), so it is possible that this might be applicable only for Redmi Note 5 Pro only currently. It is not sure if it is applicable for other Xiaomi phones.

NOTE: This might not be true as we don’t have an official confirmation of the same from Xiaomi officials.

Also, we’re having different conflicting comments from dev communities in Telegram.

We’ll update here as soon as we’ve a confirmation.

UPDATE: Here’s what Mishaal Rahman got to say about the same:

So we can conclude this news might be false indeed.

UPDATE 2: MIUI ROM official twitter handle has tweeted this out now, take a look:

So yeah, the store was false indeed. We apologise for any confusion.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 8150 Benchmarked, Crushes Competition! Upcoming Mediatek P80

Qualcomm Snapdragon

Qualcomm is working to launch its newest Snapdragon flagship processor called the Snapdragon 8150. From this iteration, Qualcomm has changed its traditional naming conventions. In the modern tech industry, smartphones come equipped with AI capabilities for a variety of purposes including object recognition and classification, facial recognition, image deblurring, intelligent scene detection. Huawei’s own Kirin 980 was the leading chipset in terms of AI till date but the scenario is about to change very soon.

As we are familiar with benchmarking for testing the processor’s CPU and GPU capabilities, AI benchmarking is also becoming mainstream. According to benchmarking website AI-Benchmark, the newest Snapdragon 8150 takes the first place pushing Mediatek’s Helio P80 and Kirin 980 down. The processor scored a massive 22082 to make its way to the top of the leaderboard. The website has stated that the processor is currently running on a prototype hardware.

Take a look at the list released by AI-Benchmark:

Model CPU RAM Year Android AI-Score
Qualcomm 8150 Dev Platform Snapdragon 8150 6GB 2018 9 22082

Google Pixel 3 Snapdragon 845 4GB 2018 9 6835
Xiaomi Mi 8 Snapdragon 845 6GB 2018 9 6746

The Snapdragon 8150 is expected to have an octa-core configuration with 1+3+4 setup. There will be only a single high-performance core coupled with three general purpose cores and four low-performance cores which efficiently save battery. We have seen leaks revealing Qualcomm’s plans to unveil the Snapdragon 6150 and 7150 by 2019 and the flagship 8150 is expected to be unveiled by December.

The latest processor is also rumored to be manufactured on the 7 nm process which other leading processors like Kirin 980 and Apple A12 Bionic are utilizing, making it the first ever Snapdragon processor to be manufactured using this technology.

Talking about Mediatek Helio P80, it’s an unreleased chipset from Mediatek and it stands just a level down the Snapdragon 8150, that is quite an achievement for Mediatek.

If these benchmarks reflect the actual performance of the processor when it actually launches, the AI performance of leading flagship devices coming out will get drastically improved as they are using Snapdragon chipsets. We should be aware that benchmarks are not everything and the actual real-world performance is what matters. We’ll have to wait till the processor gets unveiled to test out if it satisfies the expectations. Till then, stay tuned for updates.
