OnePlus made its global launch of its latest flagship device, the OnePlus 6T yesterday. Today, the company has unveiled the device for the Indian market in an event held in New Delhi. OnePlus made the event open to its fans by sending out invites and sending a bunch of goodies for the attendees.

The OnePlus 6T is a minor refresh to the original OnePlus 6, which is obvious as the “T” lineup always used to be an incremental phone with minor changes. But this time, the brand has made some daring decisions which they had not been doing in the past. The first major change would be the decision to get rid of the headphone jack. This is quite disappointing as most of the OnePlus enthusiasts loved the headphone jack and OnePlus was always a company which listened to the needs of the customer.

In the OnePlus 6T, there will be no physical fingerprint scanner. Instead, the company has decided to go with an in-display fingerprint scanner which is gradually becoming mainstream. We have seen devices with in-display fingerprint scanners in the past but OnePlus claims it to be the fastest.

In terms of specifications, the device comes with a 6.24-inch Full Optic AMOLED screen with a Full-HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2340 pixels in a 19.5:9 aspect ratio and teardrop shaped notch, protected by the layer of the latest Corning Gorilla Glass 6 on top. Also, it will have five calibration settings including adaptive mode, custom color and more for a better and immersive experience.

Under the hood, it is powered by the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC found on the OnePlus 6, coupled with Adreno 630 GPU, up to 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. It comes in three configurations, namely 6/128GB (yes, no 64GB option), 8/128GB and 8/256GB variants. Interestingly, OnePlus has improved gaming performance with the new Smart Boost feature which uses RAM as storage for an improved gaming performance. Users will experience up to 20% faster loading times with graphics-heavy games like PUBG etc.

In the Optics department, the OnePlus 6T gets the same dual-camera setup from the 6, featuring a 16MP (Sony IMX 519) as its primary shooter clubbed with a 20MP (Sony IMX 376K) secondary shooter, both having an aperture of f/1.7. The camera also supports OIS along with EIS and slow-mo video recording at 480fps.

The camera app has gone through some major changes with the inclusion of new features like the Studio Lighting mode similar to what we saw in the iPhone X, followed by the Nightscape mode (coming to OnePlus 6 soon) for better low light photography along with HDR, noise reduction, and more. For selfies, we again have the same 16MP f/2.0 shooter housed in the front notch.

Furthermore, the phone makes the use of an In-Display fingerprint scanner as the unlocking method, it is termed as “Screen Unlock” by the company and is claimed to unlock the phone in just 0.34 seconds which will improve more over the time. Digging into detail, the company said that its compatible with the screen protectors (suggested official screen protectors) and will work even if the display gets small cracks.

On the software front, the new flagship runs on latest Android 9 Pie with Oxygen OS layered on top. It draws its juice from a sufficiently large 3,700mAh battery that as usual supports OnePlus’s Dash Charge. There is no IP rating, and no wireless charging though.
