Published

HMD Global was scheduled to launch its second Nokia smartphone with a notch, Nokia X5 in Beijing, China today. The company achieved huge sales from its first notched smartphone Nokia X6 which may be the reason it opted to launch the second notched  smartphone before the X6’s international launch.

However, the company posted an official statement from its official account in Weibo informing that the event was cancelled. The reason is still unclear but the speculation is there was some scheduling conflict with the launch event venue. HMD Global is yet to give the postponed date for the Nokia X5 launch.

Here’s the official statement from Weibo:

The device appeared in TENAA and a promotional image was spotted online recently. The listing mentions it will feature a 5.8 inch display with a resolution of HD+ (1520 x 720 pixels) and an aspect ratio of 19:9. Under the hood it is said to be powered by a Mediatek Helio P60 SoC and will be coupled with 3GB, 4GB or 6GB RAM with 32GB and 64GB internal storage.

In the optics department, the smartphone sports a dual camera setup on the rear stacked in a vertical position in the middle. It has a 13MP + 5MP configuration while offering an 8MP senor at the front for selfies and video calling. It runs Android 8.1 Oreo and is backed by a 3,000 mAh battery. There is a circular fingerprint sensor at the rear while the power button and volume rocker are placed on the right side. The Nokia X5 will be available in Blue, Black and White color options.

The expected prices are CNY 799 (Rs 8,500 approx) and CNY 999 (Rs 10,500 approx) for the lower and higher variant respectively. The company is yet to confirm that but it shouldn’t be far off from that. There is also uncertainty whether the international variant Nokia 5.1 Plus will made it to the Indian market considering it is yet to release the Nokia 6.1 Plus.

OnePlus might Rebrand Dash Charge to “Warp Charge”

Published

warp charge

OnePlus has been one of the best brands while it comes to value for money against flagship grade specs, and one of the most notable features of any OnePlus phone is the Dash Charging, which is immensely fast and provides enough power to the phone to last for a whole day, in a few minutes.

Recently, when OnePlus brought the OnePlus 6 to market, even at the launch, there were no many mentions about Dash Charge and now it has been found that OnePlus is slowly fading out the term due to a rejected trademark application they filed in the EU. OnePlus has now filed another trademark application in the EU and changed the name to ‘Warp Charge’.

OnePlus applied for it at the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), and falls in the Nice class of 9, which is a classification system that provides general information about the type of goods or services that are being applied for to be covered under the trademark. And under the Nice Class 9 apparatus, instruments and cables for electricity are placed and OnePlus wants to cover Data cables, power adapters, cell phone battery chargers, electrical adapters, batteries, electric chargers for electric batteries, wireless chargers under that category. Though OnePlus has not introduced Wireless Charging yet on any of their devices, it is a safe provision for the company in case it wants to bring the feature to future flagships.

As of now, the application of the Warp Charge trademark under examination and only if the trademark is accepted, OnePlus can use the term Warp Charge exclusively. And probably we will hear about this very soon from OnePlus as an official statement in case the trademark application is accepted.

Android P might be named Pistachio! Revealed by Huawei Live Chat.

Published

Android-P

Google will be launching the final version of Android P on Q3 2018. It’s currently in beta form and available for only certain smartphones officially. The company every year names its Android versions after desserts ,the last one being Oreo. While we still don’t know the reason but a new report may have the name of the upcoming Android version. Interestingly, the leak doesn’t come from Google itself but from Chinese smartphone manufacturer Huawei.

The report comes from Polish site tabletowo describing how one of their readers contacted the Huawei customer care department to ask if the Huawei P9 Lite mini (SLA-L22) will be getting an EMUI 8.0 update built upon Android Oreo. They responded that only security updates are being planned for the models. The conversion shifted to the Huawei P9 Lite 2017, when Huawei support representatives let slip that Android P will be called Pistachio.

Now the word Pistachio comes from a small tree originating in Central Asia and Middle East. But its likely to be Android Pistachio Ice cream since there seem to no reason why Google will be diverting from their desserts naming streak. Since the leak comes from outside we expect it was not intentional and the company may have intended to keep it secret until its official release. Damn Google will not be happy about this.

As for the Android 9.0 Pistachio or whatever the final naming will be, it comes with features like App time – showing how much time you spend in every app, Do not disturb mode for filtering notifications, Gesture navigations though the on-screen navigation buttons are still there, editing screenshots, image in message previews, , text selection magnification, quick orientation controls, new music conontrol, adaptive battery and many more. Also it allows users to connect up to 5 Bluetooth devices.

Apple likely to Discontinue iPhone X Soon, along with iPhone SE. Also 6.1 inch iPhone Case Render Leaked

After creating a revolution in the basic design aspect of a smartphone by introducing the iPhone X with a notch on the top of the display, it appears like Apple may discontinue its flagship product. The notch received a lot of mixed reactions and some people went totally mad over the company’s decision to add an ugly notch on the device.

Hated or loved, many OEMs have copied the notch design in their devices. In addition to it, Android P, the upcoming version of Android also has native support for the notch design, which would solve the incompatibility issues for apps and will pave a way for app developers to add support for the notch in their apps.

According to the rumors, Apple is expected to unveil three variants of the iPhone this year, which are as follows – 6.1-inch LCD display variant, 5.8-inch iPhone X successor, and 6.5-inch iPhone X Plus variant. Out of these three devices, the 6.5-inch variant is expected to be the more premium device and would suit people who were not satisfied with the screen size of the current iPhone X. The device was spotted earlier this week on Geekbench, an online benchmarking tool.

The case renders of the 6.1-inch LCD variant of the upcoming iPhone has also been leaked online. An investor has predicted that this year’s set of iPhones would have a lot of demand from the customers which in turn may force the company to discontinue the production of the current iPhone X and the iPhone SE.

Take a look at the case renders:

The Cupertino giant is depending more on LG to produce OLED displays to be used on the newer iPhones which would reduce the company’s dependency with Samsung, its main competitor in the market. This year’s iPhones may also feature dual-SIM functionality which the company has not provided in their previous devices.
