HMD Global today launched the Nokia 7.1 in India. The smartphone was first unveiled last month at an event in London and comes with a PureDisplay panel with support for HDR10. The company claims a real-time SDR to HDR conversion using a 16-bit engine, letting users experience “HDR quality entertainment, even when the content is not.

The Nokia 7.1 features a body of 6000 series aluminium CNC machined frame and a die cast metal centre. It has a 5.84 inch PureDisplay panel with a resolution of FHD+ (2280 x 1080 pixels), an aspect ratio of 19:9 and protected by Gorilla Glass 3 protection. Under the hood, it is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 chipset coupled with 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage which can be further expanded up to 400GB via microSD card. The company also launched a 3GB RAM + 32GB internal storage variant in London but it looks like it will not be launched for the Indian market.
In the optics department, the device sports a vertically arranged dual camera setup consisting of 12MP primary camera with f/1.8 aperture and a 5MP secondary camera sensor with f/2.4 aperture and fixed focus. The Finnish company also touts two-phase detection and Zeiss optics rear sensor with EIS. On the front it offers an 8MP camera with f/2.0 aperture and 84-degree field-of-view.
The handset runs on Android Oreo and is backed by a 3,060 mAh non-removable battery with 18W fast charging that delivers 50% charge in 30 minutes. Connectivity options include 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS/A-GPS, GLONASS, NFC, USB Type-C and a 3.5mm headphone jack while sensors on-board include accelerometer, ambient light sensor, electronic compass, gyroscope, proximity sensor and a fingerprint sensor at the rear. It measures 149.7 x 71.19 x 7.9 mm and weighs 159 grams.
The Nokia 7.1 comes at a price tag of Rs 19,999 for the 4GB/64GB variant and will go on sale from December 7 through Nokia’s own online store and top mobile retailers in India. As for launch offers, Airtel is offering prepaid subscribers 1TB of 4G data on eligible plans starting from Rs 199 while the postpaid users will be getting an additional 120GB data along with a three-month Netflix and 1-year Amazon Prime subscription on plans worth Rs 499 or higher. Purchasing the smartphone using HDFC credit and debit cards will also get 10 percent cashback on certain online-stores.
