Moto X5 Cancelled! Motorola to Scale Down and Move Focus Away from Moto Mods

Published

on

Motorola was supposed to launch the successor of Moto X4, the Moto X5 this year, but unfortunately, we’re getting reports that the phone has been cancelled. The phone is almost production ready as we saw so many leaks regarding the phone and other phones in Moto’s lineup earlier this year.

With the cancellation of Moto X5, Motorola will now be focusing more on the E, G, and the Z phones, which can be touted as the money making phones for the company. It is also to be noted that Moto is discontinuing the C series of devices too this year.

Moreover, Motorola is now also changing their approach towards the Moto Mods. In simple terms, instead of launching products such as Polaroid printers, projectors etc., which only serves the niche market, Motorola is now focusing on things which actually can get them some profit. Now if you are wondering why did Motorola take this step, it is because of the Lenovo’s strategy to cut down its costs.

It is also to be noted that the company has laid off almost half of it’s employees from it’s Chicago workforce recently. And a significant amount of the laid off employees were part of Moto Z and the team is said to be “irreversibly impacted”. This has to do with Moto being moving it’s focus from Moto mods and Z line as a whole.

The Moto X4 was one of the best launches of Motorola in 2017, and now all the Moto-fans kinda feels low by hearing the news that the Moto X5 will no more be launched. Apart from this, according to the previous leaks the Moto X5 sports a bezel-less design and comes with a notch which is similar to the iPhone X.

Both the front camera and front speaker are placed over here, and yes this device does come with a dual rear camera setup. Over the front, you’ve got a 5.99 inch IPS FHD+ display, and the device is powered by octa-core processor and is coupled with 4GB of RAM.

I personally think that the Moto X5 should have been launched because all the Moto devices are usually decent flicks both in terms of performance and user experience.

HTC U12+ scores 103 in DxOMark, Just behind Huawei P20 Pro & P20.

HTC has finally unveiled their most anticipated flagship device HTC U12+ yesterday, after all the leaks and rumours. One thing HTC stressed about the device is the camera of the phone. DxOMark, which is now considered as a benchmark for smartphone camera performance has revealed their scores.

Although as we can recall the top trending devices on the DxOMark were the Huawei P20 Pro (109) & The P20 (102) and the score that HTC U12+ achieved is sandwiched in between them and took the second place in the overall list.

So, the HTC U12+ has achieved an overall DxOMark score of 103 with 106 in the Photo segment & 95 in the Video segment.

Along with that DxOMark also mentioned few significant things about this device, such as the device is highly capable of very fast autofocus, good detail & texture preservation, accurate exposure & wide dynamic range while capturing photos. But, there is visible noise in low-light images.

In terms of video segment, the device does provide an effective stabilization & good dynamic range. However, in low-light, there is some loss in detail.

Of course, DxOMark isn’t everything when it comes to the camera, as we saw with the case of Huawei P20 Pro & Pixel 2 XL. Although P20 Pro trumps in low light, Pixel 2 XL is still the king in most of the camera departments. So, we’ve too how this phone fares in real world usage to know more about the camera performance of the phone!

nokia russia launch event

HMD Global has send media invites for an upcoming Nokia launch event for “new phones” in Russia. The poster reads “Dear friends, we invite you to worldwide premiere for new Nokia phones”. It mentions the date as May 29 but it the venue has been blurred out. The poster didn’t reveal the name or even hint to the smartphones that will be launched.

The event will be attended by the top management of HMD Global like CEO, CMO and CPO which revels the launch will be a pretty big ones. Also another important point that most of the 2018 Nokia smartphones are already available in Russia, including Nokia 8110 4G, Nokia 3310 4G, Nokia 1, Nokia 6 2018 and Nokia 7 Plus except the Nokia 8 Sirocco and the Nokia 8110 4G. Which means this year’s Nokia 2, 3 and 4 might be launched. HMD Global’s CEO Pekka Rentala already confirmed the existence of Nokia 2, 3 and 5 successors.

Three unknown Nokia smartphones with model number TA-1075, TA-1105 and Ta-1116 were spotted in Russian certification. The certification didn’t reveal any specs so its too early to comment about its segment. Also there was reports that Nokia 3 2018 is getting launched soon. We expect it to run a Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset this time instead of a MediaTek one. We will know soon on May 29 at 7 PM.
