Moto X5 Cancelled! Motorola to Scale Down and Move Focus Away from Moto Mods

Published

on

Motorola was supposed to launch the successor of Moto X4, the Moto X5 this year, but unfortunately, we’re getting reports that the phone has been cancelled. The phone is almost production ready as we saw so many leaks regarding the phone and other phones in Moto’s lineup earlier this year.

With the cancellation of Moto X5, Motorola will now be focusing more on the E, G, and the Z phones, which can be touted as the money making phones for the company. It is also to be noted that Moto is discontinuing the C series of devices too this year.

Moreover, Motorola is now also changing their approach towards the Moto Mods. In simple terms, instead of launching products such as Polaroid printers, projectors etc., which only serves the niche market, Motorola is now focusing on things which actually can get them some profit. Now if you are wondering why did Motorola take this step, it is because of the Lenovo’s strategy to cut down its costs.

It is also to be noted that the company has laid off almost half of it’s employees from it’s Chicago workforce recently. And a significant amount of the laid off employees were part of Moto Z and the team is said to be “irreversibly impacted”. This has to do with Moto being moving it’s focus from Moto mods and Z line as a whole.

The Moto X4 was one of the best launches of Motorola in 2017, and now all the Moto-fans kinda feels low by hearing the news that the Moto X5 will no more be launched. Apart from this, according to the previous leaks the Moto X5 sports a bezel-less design and comes with a notch which is similar to the iPhone X.

Both the front camera and front speaker are placed over here, and yes this device does come with a dual rear camera setup. Over the front, you’ve got a 5.99 inch IPS FHD+ display, and the device is powered by octa-core processor and is coupled with 4GB of RAM.

I personally think that the Moto X5 should have been launched because all the Moto devices are usually decent flicks both in terms of performance and user experience.

When Nokia launched the Lumia range of smartphones running on the Windows operating system years ago, they made quiet a wave. Later, Microsoft took over and continued the production of the Lumia from Nokia. The Lumia range of smartphones did find a lot of buyers and had some of the finest smartphones of the time.

But, Microsoft couldn’t keep up with the Android and iOS trends and eventually died out. Now reports states that Microsoft is preparing to end support for the Windows 10 Mobile by the end of this year.

Microsoft has asked the users of Windows 10 mobiles to switch to an Android or iOS device as it announced the end of support for Windows 10 Mobile. The news doesn’t come as a surprise as Joe Belfiore, Corporate Vice President of Windows 10, had made clear that they wont be focusing on new features or hardware for Windows 10 Mobile back in 2017.

In an “End of Support” page, the tech giant told users that Windows 10 Mobile will stop receiving new security updates after December 10. While the news was expected, it comes as a blow as several peoples are still using the windows mobile across the world, owing to its build quality and performance.

“With the Windows 10 Mobile OS end of support, we recommend that customers move to a supported Android or iOS device. Microsoft’s mission statement to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more, compels us to support our Mobile apps on those platforms and devices,” the company wrote in the support page late on Friday.

The New York City Police Department (NYPD) scrapped as many as 36,000 windows mobiles used by the law enforcers back in 2017 after Microsoft acknowledged that it’s support will be ending. In an other statement, Microsoft also made clear that their Virtual Assistant Cortana is no longer in direct competition with Google Assistant and Amazon’s Alexa.

Redmi Note 7, the first phone from the newly formed sub brand “Redmi” was launched 2 days ago. But they missed out announcing an important feature of the phone. Xiaomi President Lei Jun shared in his official weibo account that Redmi Note 7’s uses a design in which it’s buttons are waterproof and interfaces too.

According to Lei, the Redmi Note 7 supports dust and splash protection just like the OnePlus 6/6T. The R&D team did detailed work, including I/O port seal design, switch & USB waterproof seal, speaker double-layer dust-proof design, independent earpiece sealing, and front-facing sealing rubber sleeve.

However the Redmi Note 7 doesn’t come with an IP certification, but it will be able to provide basic water/splash resistance. If that does sound familiar, OnePlus 6 & 6T comes with similar splash resistance.
