Motorola‘s most popular smartphone lineup (Probably) G-Series was kinda dead, due to overpriced phones and mediocre hardware on them. The Moto G6 and G7 lineup received a quite lukewarm response from consumers as well as many guys who were disappointed by just looking at the price tag and the specs sheet. But now, it looks like Motorola is back on track with the new Moto G8 Plus. The Moto G8 Plus is improved in quite a few aspects, mostly in terms of camera, chipset, and battery.
The Moto G8 Plus comes with a 6.3-inch IPS LCD display with an aspect ratio of 19:9 and a tiny waterdrop notch. The right edge houses the power button which is textured and above that there are the volume rockers. At the bottom, there is the USB-C port, primary mic, and a speaker. Interestingly, there is another speaker. The earpiece doubles as a speaker and hence the phone provides a stereo experience.
The phone is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 665 processor clocked at 2.0GHz and Adreno 610 GPU, coupled with 4GB of RAM. Finally, Motorola got rid of the bottlenecked chipset for a G-Series phone. In terms of the camera as well, there are quite a few interesting improvements and implementations.
The Moto G8 Plus comes with three rear cameras- A 48-megapixel primary camera with an f/1.7 aperture, a 5-megapixel depth sensor, and a 16-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera with a 117-degree field of view. Along with this camera triad, there’s also a laser autofocus sensor on the back. The rear camera comes with features like PDAF, up to 8x digital zoom, burst shot, auto HDR, live filter, portrait mode, manual mode, RAW photo output, slow-motion video and much more. On the front, there is a 25-megapixel camera for selfies and video calls with features like Auto HDR, Timer, Face beauty, Auto smile capture, Cinemagraph, Portrait mode, Portrait lighting, Group selfie, Spot color, Live filter, Active photos, Gesture selfie, etc.
The phone has 64GB onboard storage which can be expanded up to 512GB using a hybrid card slot, so users can either choose between using two SIM cards or use one SIM card along with a microSD card. The phone packs a 4000mAh battery and as usual, there is 15W Turbo Charging support. Motorola bundles a Turbo Charger along with the phone as well. The phone runs Android 9 Pie with very subtle Moto exclusive customizations and the user interface is one of the closest to Stock Android. In terms of connectivity, the phone supports 4G with VoLTE, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC and Wi-Fi (both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz). The phone is priced at Rs. 13,999 and will go on sale on the Indian e-commerce portal Flipkart.
