Mi 8 SE to Launch in India as Mi 8i in July, to come with Mi Band 3

Published

on

Earlier this month, Xiaomi had launched its latest flagship, the Mi 8 and also introduced Mi 8 SE, alongside a special Mi 8 Explorer Edition. apart from the ‘Geeky Looking’ Mi 8 Explorer Edition, the Mi 8 SE is somewhat special due to the fact that it is being powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 processor, the first phone to have a chipset from the new Snapdragon 700 Series.

Now, a new report from Beebom claims that Xiaomi is going to launch the Mi 8 SE in India next month as the Mi 8i. As per the website, they got this piece of info from their sources in Xiaomi’s retailer network. The website also claimed that they know the reason why the phone is a being named like this, as their source in Xiaomi told them that ‘i’ in the name denotes ‘India’.

The claim seems bold and clear as even on Xiaomi’s official website, the product page of Mi 8 SE has the URL mentioning ‘mi8i’, instead of Mi 8 SE. There are claims about pricing saying that the phone will be priced between Rs. 18,000 to Rs. 20,000 in India, this price range is similar to the pricing of Mi 8 SE in China. The website also says that Xiaomi may possibly launch the Mi Band 3 in India, alongside the phone.

Xiaomi had named phones like this earlier as well. Back in 2015, the first ‘Made for India’ smartphone was launched by Xiaomi in India, the Mi 4i and now, after three years, when Xiaomi is holding a strong position in the Indian smartphone market, probably the company is reconsidering a refresh. It is now being expected that the Mi 8i and Mi Band 3 may arrive in India by the end of next month or in August. The Mi Band 3 is priced at Rs. 1,800 (approx.), and the variant of Mi Band 3 with NFC is priced at Rs. 2,100.

Sony Xperia XZ2

This year Sony has launched the Xperia XZ2 and the upgraded Xperia XZ2 Premium in February and April respectively. Now the Japanese smartphone manufacturer is gearing up for the Xperia XZ3 Premium. The smartphone has appeared in the benchmarking website GFXBench with model number SM H8415 where it revealed some key specs.

According to the GFXBench specs list, the Xperia XZ3 Premium will sport a 5.9 display with a resolution of QHD+ (2880 x 1440 pixels). The display size is larger than the Xperia Z2 and the Z2 Premium which stands at 5.8 inch. It will be powered by an unknown Qualcomm chipset with eight cores and clocked at 2.7 GHz (that sounds like Snapdragon 845).

It will be coupled with 6GB RAM and 128GB internal storage. Interestingly, the smartphone rums on Android 9 or Android P which is yet to be released and  expected to be officially available sometime in August. This might well be the first smartphone to be launched with this version of Android. This hints to a IFA 2018 launch at Berlin Germany to be held from August 31.

In the optics department, the device sports a 19MP rear camera while offering 13MP in the front. Previous rumours have claimed a dual camera setup on the rear with 19+12MP configuration contradicting the recent information. There is no information about the phone’s battery which is expected to be somewhere between 3800 mAh and 3,900 mAh.

In a recent interview, Sony confirmed that they will be adopting the bezel less trend in their upcoming smartphones. The Xperia XZ3 may become the first true bezel less smartphone. The phone will be appearing in other benchmarking and certification websites from where we will be covering more information.

Additionally, Xiaomi has also showcased the official retail box of the upcoming smartphone.

The smartphone has a design language similar to what we already saw on Redmi Note 5 Pro, Redmi Y2 and Mi 8 series. The back houses a vertically stacked Dual Camera setup along with a single LED flash in between. The back is constructed out of metal except for the top and bottom part which is made of plastic for cellular reception. Though the front has a notch, the thick chin at the bottom looks weird and it seems that Xiaomi’s main focus was just to provide notch instead of providing more screen for better Screen to body ratio.

Although the device is yet to be launched, we already know most of its specifications listed on TENAA. The Redmi 6 Pro will sport 5.84-inch Full HD+ IPS LCD display with a 19:9 aspect ratio due to the presence of Notch. Under the hood, it will be powered by octa-core Snapdragon 625 SoC clocked at 2GHz paired with Adreno 506 GPU. It will come in 2/16GB, 3/2GB and 4/64GB RAM and storage configurations which can be expanded further up to 256GB via microSD Card slot.

An 8MP Selfie shooter is present at the front notch. The device is backed by a large 4,000 mAh battery which can be charged at 5V/2A using the provided micro USB slot. The traditional IR blaster is given at the top and the device is expected to run on MIUI 9.5 based on Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box.

Redmi 6 Pro Launch Date and Pricing

Xiaomi has already confirmed that the Redmi 6 Pro will be launched with the Mi Pad 4 on June 25 at an event held in China. While there are no strong leaks for the pricing, few suggest that the Redmi 6 Pro will be priced at 999 Yuan for the 4/64GB version which roughly translates to 10,500 INR. The device is expected to land in India within next two months along with the Redmi 6 and Redmi 6A smartphones. Stay tuned for more updates.
