mi 7 rear render

Xiaomi is gearing up to release its next iteration in the Mi series- the Mi 7. We were first expecting the company to launch the device at MWC 2018. Turns out, the Chinese smartphone maker had other plans.

There were leaked renders which claimed to be Mi 7. A screenshot leak revealed the key specifications of the device.  It’s been in the air that the company had delayed the launch of the smartphone for a total overhaul of the overall design and adding new sensors to the body.

It seems like Xiaomi is also joining the notch squad by opting to implement the top notch as seen on the iPhone X. There are also chances that the company might add the trending in-display fingerprint sensor. Today, traces about the presence of a top-notch have been found in addition to an Infrared Camera (IR) sensor.

A build property called ro.miui.notch is read for which the value is set to ‘1’ (true) in build.prop. This confirms the presence of the notch in the Mi 7. Within the MIUI Keyguard app (the app responsible for the lock screen and all its functionality), there’s a new method called openIRCamera. This method is called in several places related to MIUI’s Face Unlock feature. The inclusion of IR camera sensor hints that a replica of Apple’s Face ID is under the works.
