LG Q8 2018

LG has now announced the LG Q8 (2018) as a new contender in its Q- series after launching the devices like LG Q7 and the Q7 Plus that was launched back in May, this year. This is the 2018 version of the last year’s LG Q8 and is being offered as a mid-range phone by the South Korean giant.

The LG Q8 (2018) comes with a 6.2-inch Full HD+ FullVision display having a resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixels and an aspect ratio of 18:9, resulting in a pixel density of 389ppi. Also, it comes bundled with a built-in stylus for operating the display.

Moreover, it packs 4GB of RAM and 64GB of onboard storage which is further expandable up to 2TB using a MicroSD Card.

In the Optics department, the LG Q8 (2018) features a single 16-megapixel shooter with a PDAF (phase detection autofocus) along with an LED flash at the back. At the front side, we have a 5-megapixel shooter with 100-degree wide-angle lens for Selfies.

The device is built on MIL-STD 810G military standards and has the IP68 rating for dust and water resistance. On the software front, it runs on LG’s Optimus UI based on Android 8.1 Oreo. All this is powered by a 3,300mAh battery which does support Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 technology.

Other features include QLens, Hi-Fi quality audio, DTS:X 3D Surround Sound, and a Hi-Fi Quad DAC, also present on the LG G7 ThinQ+ which has just landed in India. Connectivity options include 4G VoLTE, WiFi, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS and USB Type-C 2.0.

The LG Q8 (2018) will be available in Aurora Black and Moroccan Blue colour options at a price of KRW 539,000, which roughly translates to Rs.32,900. The device will soon go on sale in Korea, however, the company hasn’t confirmed the Indian launch yet. Stay tuned.

Xiaomi’s sub-brand Redmi is all set to release its first smartphone flagship smartphone, the Redmi K20 in China next week. Ahead of the launch, the Chinese manufacturer has revealed another smartphone which will be launched alongside the K20. Dubbed as the Redmi 7A, it is the successor to the Redmi 6A launched back in June last year.

From the images, the Redmi 7A seems to sport a polycarbonate body with a more seamless design than the 6A. The rear panel comes with a P2i coating to repel water and oil-based liquids and is splash-resistant. Like the predecessor, it misses out a fingerprint sensor and the back seems plain with just the camera sensors. To make up for it, there will be AI Face Unlocking on the phone.

The Redmi 7A features a 5.45 inch HD+ display that is claimed to have better response and improved blue-light filtering over its predecessor. Under the hood, it houses an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 439 chipset that offers a 26% performance boost over the MediaTek Helio A22 on the Redmi 6A.

The company is yet to reveal the storage variants and RAM options. It is likely to come with a standard offering of 2GB + 16GB and 3GB + 32GB. The company did confirm that it will come with a non-hybrid SIM tray which supports up to 256GB SD cards.

In the optics department, it has a single 13MP rear sensor with a LED flash and is aided by AI algorithms to improve imagery. The resolution of the front camera is yet to be revealed but Redmi promised that it will have AI beauty enhancements and background bokeh effect. It will draw power from a 4,000 mAh battery. While this will be 33% larger than the 6A, the in-box charger has been upgraded from 5W to 10W.

The Redmi 7A will be available in blue and black shades. The price and the available will be revealed on the Redmi K20 launch event on May 28. According to rumors, the company may launch a new laptop with the two smartphones, likely to be called RedmiBook 14.
