LG G8 ThinQ to feature Crystal Sound OLED tech, Audio from Screen!

LG has been making quiet a wave in the smartphone market through their flagship G series smartphones. Now LG is going to disrupt the smartphone market by launching their latest flagship smartphone, the LG G8 ThinQ during the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona later this month. While a lot of leaked information about the specs of the G8 ThinQ are doing rounds over the internet, new information are getting leaked as we near the launch date.

According to the latest reports, the LG G8 ThinQ will be flaunting something new called the Crystal Sound OLED technology, which turns the phone’s screen into an audio amplifier.  While this technology is similar to the one that vibrates the screen to produce sound, LG claims that this new tech will allow them to achieve more crisp and louder volume.

In a statement released to confirm the news about the crystal sound OLED technology, LG said:

“At MWC 2019, LG Electronics (LG) will remind audiences of its reputation and history as a leader in smartphone sound with the new LG G8 ThinQ featuring Crystal Sound OLED (CSO), an innovative technology that utilizes the phone’s OLED display as an audio amplifier.”

It is expected that the LG G8 ThinQ will sport a Snapdragon 855 chipset under the hood, along with 6GB of RAM and a 3,500mAh battery. LG has already made enough hype by announcing that the G8 ThinQ will be coming with touch-less gesture navigation.

Previously LG had confirmed that the G8 ThinQ will be having a front-facing ToF sensor by Infineon Tech, which will also support 3D face unlock feature. A triple camera setup in the rear and a notched display is also rumored. Coming back to the audio specifications, it will be supporting an emulated 7.1 surround sound using DTS:X with or without headphones.

The G8 ThinQ sports a “Boombox Speaker” design that uses space within the phone as a resonance chamber to fill out its sound (we saw the same in LG G7 Thinq & LG v40 Thinq). Support for Master Quality Authenticated (MQA) encoded audio is added on board along with a Hi-Fi DAC. Going through the specifications, it is evident that LG has done enough homework to make sure that the Lg G8 ThinQ is a true flagship in all aspects.
