A new Lenovo device is in development with a camera hole. Dubbed as the Lenovo Z5S, it appeared last month on the website of MIIT (Ministry of Industry and Information Technology). Today, the folks at Sparrow News got their hands on a real life photo and video of the smartphone which confirms the circular cut-out.
Samsung showcased three different types of notches at the Samsung Developers Conference (SDC) last month with the Infinity-O display being one of them. The Galaxy A8s is already touted to come with the Infinity-O display while Huawei already released a teaser and showcased the Nova 4 with a hole in the top left of the display that will be launched this month. But this the first time we have seen the working of the cut-out notch up-close. These cut-out notches are more pleasing and less distracting.
The video shows that it is very easy to hide it inside the notification tray like a blacked-out notification icon. The smartphone will likely come with a drop down option to hide the notch even though we are not complaining. The absence of traditional notch allows the smartphones to achieve a high screen-to-body ratio eliminating the need of the bezels.
As for the Lenovo Z5S, the certification didn’t reveal much except for a 6.3 inch display with 18:9 aspect ratio and unspecified resolution and a 3210 mAh battery. The dimensions were given as 156.7 x 74.5 x 7.8 mm. The device sports a triple camera setup in the rear stacked in a vertical arrangement on the top left of the handset. It is accompanied by a circular fingerprint sensor at the middle. This may be the handset with model number was previously certified from National Radio Administration (NRA) and Chinese regulatory agency TENAA.
