Lenovo Z5 Launched! No Full Screen display, No 95% Screen to Body ratio & no 4TB internal

Published

on

The Lenovo Z5 is finally unveiled in Beijing and instead of a smartphone free from bezel and notches; it is another Android smartphone with a notch on top following the likes of Huawei P20 Pro, OnePlus 6 and the recently launched Mi 8.

In the previous teasers the top notch was omitted. The Chinese smartphone manufacturer has been teasing this hyped smartphone since weeks about a truly bezel less smartphone with unbelievable specs (including a 4TB internal storage) but it’s not as expected.

The design is pretty similar to the flagship notched smartphones with a lower chin bezel at the bottom. The notch measures 26.17 mm while the chin measures 7.69 mm. Lenovo claims the bezels are narrower than the Mi 8 and iPhone X but they also previously claimed more than 95% screen-to-body ratio which didn’t fit the description. The Z5 features a 6.2 inch 2.5D IPS display with a resolution of FHD+ (2246 x 1080 pixels) and an aspect ratio of 19:9 for the notch.

Under the hood, the phone is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 chipset coupled with 6 GB LPDDR4X RAM with 64GB and 128GB internal storage which is further expandable to 256GB via a microSD card. The company also previously teased that the device will come with 4TB internal storage but turned out be just a marketing gimmick, and they were talking about their.

In the optics department, the smartphone sports a dual camera setup of 16MP primary and 8MP with f/2.0 aperture secondary cameras which are vertically stacked and have AI capabilities, HDR+ and 4K support and an LED flash. On the front it offers 8MP camera with f/2.0 aperture.

It runs on Android 8.1 Oreo and is backed by a 3,300 mAh battery with support for 18W fast charging. Connectivity features include 4G LTE, dual band Wi-Fi 802.11 ac with hotspot, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, a 3.5 mm headphone jack, dual SIM and a USB Type-C. Sensors on board include accelerometer ambient light sensor, electronic compass, gyroscope, fingerprint sensor and proximity sensor. The device weighs 153 x 75.65 x 7.85 mm and weighs 165 grams.

As for the pricing, it comes with a cheap price tag of 1299 Yuan (Rs 13,500 approx) for the 6GB/64GB variant while the higher 6GB/128GB variant costs 1,799 Yuan (Rs 18,500 approx). The smartphone is up for pre-orders and will go on sale in China from June 12. Lenovo has also launched Lenovo K5 Note & Lenovo A5 along with this phone.

NOTE: Don’t believe the renders, take a look at the below given image. Yes, the phone doesn’t look like the one from the renders, because Lenovo has heavily edited the renders to show rather impressive screen to body ratio, which it doesn’t have in real life.

Lenovo Z5 specifications

  • 6.2 inch FHD+ 19:9 display
  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 SoC
  • 6GB RAM
  • 64/128GB internal specs
  • 16+8MP dual rear cameras

OPPO Showcases 10x Hybrid Optical Zoom & a Bigger UD Fingerprint Scanner

oppo hybrid 10x zoom

OPPO in an event today showcased a 10X camera setup implementing three sensors along with a bigger in-screen fingerprint scanner area. The event didn’t include any smartphone launch or demo of some sort but the Chinese manufacturer promised more in the MWC 2019 event next month.

The 10X hybrid optical zoom technology works by combining its 5X optical zoom with a wide- angle lens that combines to give a 10 times zoom. There is a third camera sensor in the middle for regular snaps but it doesn’t affect the zoom range. The company representatives’ reveals that the module covers the 35mm equivalent of 15.9-159mm focal length. To give you an idea, Huawei’s Mate 20 Pro’s triple camera boasts 16mm to 80mm in 25mm terms.

The new OPPO camera module includes Dual OIS (Optical Image Stabilization) for the main camera and telephoto lens. To build this camera setup, 100+ R&D patients were used and was drop tested 28,000 times. The first samples will be made available in the MWC event in Barcelona. The company promised that this tech will ship to manufacturers this year.

OPPO has also made developments in its display technology with the announcement of a bigger under-display fingerprint scanner similar to the one Lin Bin of Xiaomi introduced earlier today. The new sensor boasts an area 15 times larger than the current one in OPPO R17 and can detect two fingers at same time. Though there was a similar technology with the Vivo APEX concept last year it was not market ready.

A senior OPPO executive calls the technology the new “biometric experience” and is expected to hit the markets and smartphones by the end of this year meaning the company might showcase an early OPPO R19 at MWC 2019 to be held from February 25 to February 28.
