Kirin 980

The Chinese tech giant Huawei has turned out to be very aggressive and seems to have a master plan on its mind. Previously we have seen Huawei using the latest Kirin 970 10mn processors on most of the Mate 10 series, Honor V10, and also on the P20 series. But now Huawei has decided to schedule the production of the all-new Kirin 980 Processor which will be using the latest 7nm process and we are expecting the production to start off this Quarter.

Both Samsung and TSMC has been competing very hard on this new processes in the previous years. Now Samsung is planning to introduce the world’s first EUV lithography on the 7nm process. But as well all know, the new technologies definitely require hell lot of research, development and also calibration, but unfortunately these processes are not so smooth. Now TSMC is replying up on the existing technology to build the 7nm process.

So by the next time we can expect EUV to join in and upgrade to the latest 7nm process. According to the latest sources, we got to know that TSMC has already lined up the production of the 7nm process this quarter. Now if everything goes well, then this can definitely contribute to 10% of the company’s revenue this year.

We are not yet sure about the specs regarding the Kirin 980 as of now, hopefully we’ll see more about the chipset soon enough.

Huawei to Start Manufacturing in India from 2019, also aims to open 1000 Exclusive Stores

Huawei

The Chinese smartphone giant Huawei recently made its comeback to India with the launch of Huawei P20 Pro and the Huawei P20 Lite back in April, while its sub-brand Honor was still doing good. Since then, the company has launched some other phones like the Huawei Nova 3, Huawei Nova 3i and now Amazon India has officially confirmed the arrival of latest Huawei Mate 20 Pro as well. Following the same, Huawei has made it official that it is planning to start manufacturing its smartphones in India itself, and will be opening around 1,000 brand exclusive stores too for further strengthening its roots in the country.

In an interview to Times Of India, Mr. Jim Lu, Global Vice President, Huawei said:

“We look at India strategically and now intend to grow our presence through the launch of devices in the mid-and-premium-end of the market.”

He also said

“Volumes are going down globally as the lifecycle of devices goes up. However, India is a completely different market with 4G just starting to expand. Hence, it’s time to expand and invest in India, Starting next year, we have a plan to invest over $100 million in India over three years”.

This directly signifies that Huawei looks at India as a tier 1 market and is ready to invest over $100 million (around Rs 7,350 crore) for expansion of its manufacturing plants and stores. Coming to the sub-brand Honor, it has already experienced a whopping growth of 400% over the past nine months and will hopefully make it to 500% by the end of this year. The company further aims to grab the No.1 spot in the country by 2021.

Huawei, as of now, targets the premium as well as the mid-range smartphone segment and plans to give a tough competition to other Chinese brands like Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo followed by the Korean giant Samsung. To be more specific, it directs towards establishing itself as a premium manufacturer like Samsung, Apple and OnePlus. On the road to same, the company will be opening around 1000 Exclusive stores in the next 2-3 years for boosting up the offline presence in addition to the online sales, and will also tighten up its marketing and promotion strategies.

Prior to this decision, Huawei had partnered with local company Flex India in the support for government’s “Made in India” strategy for manufacturing the Honor series smartphones at lower costs. Continuing the same, the brand is also partnering with the Taiwanese contract manufacturer Foxconn (Apple’s current partner for production) for expanding its manufacturing plants.

Huawei’s keenness in India is obvious due to the issues and bans in the US market, as they now have a limited area for expansion which includes Europe where this China’s largest smartphone manufacturer currently accounts for over 20 percent in overall smartphone sales. Let us see if it actually succeeds in building what it aims for. Till then, stay tuned.

With the increase in hardware power, smartphone manufacturers have turned to software acceleration technology as well. Huawei launched their GPU Turbo tech, which brought gaming acceleration to their phones. Now another Chinese manufacturer OPPO has announced its own acceleration engine called as Hyper Boost which they been teasing earlier this week.

The new technology is capable of achieving full scenario system-level performance optimization and improves the overall power efficiency of the device. The Hyper Boost acceleration engine is being self-developed by the company and includes system engine, game engine and application engine. The system is able to optimize the performance in three aspects of system, gaming and application.

The new technology also has a behaviour-aware scheduling (BAS) solution which has been developed independently by the company. This results in tuning the underlying hardware frequency to 0.2 milliseconds from the default frequency of 20 milliseconds Linux task scheduler. Not any that, it also implements system-level optimisation of hardware platforms and sends a technical feedback to the vendors.
