Huawei is one of the innovative manufactures when it comes to smartphone photography. The Chinese manufacturer was the one to debut the triple camera setup in the P20 Pro smartphones earlier this year. Now according to a new report, the company’s upcoming Huawei P30 flagship may sport the Sony IMX607 sensor that is expected to be unveiled soon.
The source of the leak was a Weibo user who found the information on the sensor with 38MP resolution and is quite an upgrade over the primary IMX600 sensor on the processor Huawei P20 Pro. The white paper for the Sony IMX607 sensor reveals that it has 1/1.8” sensor and comes with a Dual Bayer technology instead of the Quad Bayer which helped in crisp photography in the past phones. The upcoming Sony sensor is not completely dependent on RGB pixels while a new addition comes in the form of a white pixel array.
In the Quad Bayer Technology of P20 Pro, two pixels were used for short exposure and the two other for long exposure which provided the cameras with a enhanced dynamic range. The new Dual Bayer technology will be not much different using the white pixels for the same purpose, but allow more light and details even in low light environments.
The Sony IMX607 is also speculated to come with quad-pixel phase detection auto-focus (PDAF) for enhanced auto-focus, high pixel binning function that allows capturing more details along with an in-built temperature sensor as well. The camera will also work well with the AI technology on the Huawei P30 Pro.
The report certainly proves the Sony IMX607 deserves be the primary camera on the Huawei P30 Pro. However, the company is yet to announce it officially so we suggest you to take this news with a pinch of salt before jumping into any conclusions.
