Huawei P30 and P30 Pro Goes Official. Sports Quad Rear Cameras & Kirin 980!



Huawei announced its latest flagship devices – the P30 and the P30 Pro in an event held at Paris today. The brand had also unveiled few accessories like Huawei FreeLace (wireless earphones with Type C port), Huawei Watch GT, Huawei 12000 mAh powerbank, and Huawei Freebuds Lite.

These new smartphones are the successors of the Huawei P20 Series which got launched an year back. Just like the previous generation devices in the P series, Huawei has given emphasis to the cameras. There is a quad rear camera setup on the P30 Pro while there is a triple rear camera setup in the regular P30.

The Huawei P30 Pro flaunts a tall 6.47-inch OLED HDR10 display with 1080 x 2340 pixel resolution. This time, the bezels are noticeably minimal on the front. An earpiece is not present on the handset, instead it uses an electromagnetic levitation speaker, which works by vibrating the display. The device has an aluminium frame and curved edges.

Under the hood, the P30 Pro is powered by Huawei’s own 7nm HiSilicon Kirin 980. 8 GB of RAM is present for efficient multitasking which is paired with 128 GB, 256 GB, and 512 GB of internal storage options.

Coming to the major attraction of the handset, the cameras. The primary camera is a 40 MP sensor which Huawei calls “SuperSensing Sensor”. It is accompanied by a secondary 8 MP 10x “hybrid” zoom sensor and a 20 MP ultra-wide angle lens. The 8 MP sensor can result in up to 10x lossless hybrid zoom(5x optical zoom + 5x digital zoom) which can go up to 50x. The last sensor is the 3D ToF sensor which will help in capturing the depth information. The front camera is a 32 MP sensor which is placed on the notch.

Huawei claims to have improved the low light capabilites by including an RYYB sensor instead of the traditional RGB sensor which would allow more light to be captured. Earlier, there was a dilemma whether split-screen simultaneous video recording is possible or not, the brand has confirmed its presence on the smartphone. There is a massive 4,200 mAh battery to ensure an all day battery life. For security, there is an optical in-display fingerprint sensor on the device.

As far as the Huawei P30 is concerned, it features a smaller 6.1-inch OLED HDR10 display with 1080 x 2340 pixel resolution and flat edges. It also uses the Kirin 980 chipset. The electromagnetic levitation speaker is not present on the P30. There will be 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage. The P30 does not miss out on the optical in-display fingerprint sensor.

In terms of optics, the primary camera is a 40 MP sensor similar to the P30 Pro. The secondary camera is a 16 MP ultra-wide angle lens coupled with an 8 MP telephoto “periscope” lens capable of doing 5x “hybrid” zoom (3x optical zoom + 2x digital zoom). The device lacks the 3D ToF camera. The front camera is a 32 MP sensor like the P30 Pro.

There will be a smaller 3,650 mAh battery on the handset. For audio enthusiasts, the headphone jack is present on the Huawei P30 while it got removed in the P30 Pro. In terms of software, both the devices will run on Android Pie with EMUI 9.0 on top. Black, Pearl White, Aurora, Amber Sunrise, and Breathing Crystal are the color variants available.

The Huawei P30 Pro is priced at 999 Euros(~Rs.77,000) for the 8 GB + 128 GB model while the 8 GB + 256 GB model and 8 GB + 512 GB model are priced at 1099 Euros (~Rs.86,000) and 1249 Euros (~Rs.97,200) respectively. The Huawei P30 is priced at 799 Euros (Rs.62,000).
