Honor V20 Launched in China. Comes with Punch Hole Display Camera & 48MP Rear Camera!

Published

on

Honor today launched their Honor V20 in China. In the past few months, a lot of leaks have surfaced online regarding the specifications of the device. A few months back, the handset made its first online appearance through certification from China’s 3C and CMIIT agencies.

The main feature of the phone is the punch hole camera on the display, which we saw in Samsung Galaxy A8s & Huawei Nova 4, which launched earlier this month. It is a 6.4 inch FHD+ LCD display with the hole for camera on the left side on the phone.

The handset is powered by Huawei’s own 7nm chipset, the HiSilicon Kirin 980, the same chipset used in Huawei’s own flagships Huawei Mate 20 series, Huawei Nova 4 and Honor’s own Honor Magic 2 flagship.

There are three variants for the device. The base model will feature 6 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage, another variant with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage while the higher variant will have 8 GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. There’s also a special edition Moschino variant, which comes with 8GB RAM & 256GB internal storage.

The Honor V20 will harness the power of AI for enhancing the camera performance. The phone also has Huawei’s Link Turbo technology, which helps to achieve faster transfer rates by combining LTE and Wi-Fi networks.

The secondary camera is a 3D TOF sensor instead of a depth sensor, telephoto sensor or wide angle cameras like other Huawei or Honor phones. If that TOF sensor sounds familiar, it’s the one similar to the secondary camera we saw in Oppo R17 Pro and Vivo NEX Dual Display edition.

The in-display camera will have a 25 MP sensor for capturing pixel-perfect selfies. There is be a whopping 4000 mAh battery coupled with 22.5W fast-charging.

In terms of software, it runs on EMUI 9 based on Android 9.0 Pie out of the box. The leaked poster shows the smartphone in three color options- Red, Blue, and Black.

oppo hybrid 10x zoom

OPPO in an event today showcased a 10X camera setup implementing three sensors along with a bigger in-screen fingerprint scanner area. The event didn’t include any smartphone launch or demo of some sort but the Chinese manufacturer promised more in the MWC 2019 event next month.

The 10X hybrid optical zoom technology works by combining its 5X optical zoom with a wide- angle lens that combines to give a 10 times zoom. There is a third camera sensor in the middle for regular snaps but it doesn’t affect the zoom range. The company representatives’ reveals that the module covers the 35mm equivalent of 15.9-159mm focal length. To give you an idea, Huawei’s Mate 20 Pro’s triple camera boasts 16mm to 80mm in 25mm terms.

The new OPPO camera module includes Dual OIS (Optical Image Stabilization) for the main camera and telephoto lens. To build this camera setup, 100+ R&D patients were used and was drop tested 28,000 times. The first samples will be made available in the MWC event in Barcelona. The company promised that this tech will ship to manufacturers this year.

OPPO has also made developments in its display technology with the announcement of a bigger under-display fingerprint scanner similar to the one Lin Bin of Xiaomi introduced earlier today. The new sensor boasts an area 15 times larger than the current one in OPPO R17 and can detect two fingers at same time. Though there was a similar technology with the Vivo APEX concept last year it was not market ready.

A senior OPPO executive calls the technology the new “biometric experience” and is expected to hit the markets and smartphones by the end of this year meaning the company might showcase an early OPPO R19 at MWC 2019 to be held from February 25 to February 28.
