Honor Magic 2 with Camera Slider & No Bezels Teased at IFA 2018!

Published

on

The IFA Berlin event is just a day away from the scheduled start date of August 31 but it seems like companies are holding events a day or two earlier than decided to grab the initial publicity. Today, the Huawei’s sub-brand Honor has unveiled a new phone i.e. the Honor Magic 2 which has something serious to do with the design language it carries.

The Honor Magic 2 was teased by company’s president George Zhao as “one more thing”- in typical Apple style, just after the European launch of the Honor Play. This device carries a notch-less display with almost no bezels and will succeed the Honor Magic that was launched way back in late 2016.

Let us begin with the highlight of the device first. The Honor Magic 2 has a similar appeal like the Oppo Find X but implements a different and more practical technology. The front camera, sensors and the earpiece are placed on a sliding component at the back which should be physically dragged by the user in order to make it work whenever required, unlike the motorized mechanism found on the Find X .

However, do note that the Honor Magic 2 is just teased in Berlin as of now while the official launch is scheduled two months later. During the teaser, Honor only played a teaser video that didn’t actually reveal anything except a bit of design language followed by the phone physically being showcased with its sliding capabilities by Mr Zhao.

The guys at Forbes, who actually interviewed Mr Zhao at the event, reveal that the reason why they teased the device so earlier was because one of their competitor was planning for a similar phone and therefore, Honor wanted to do it first.

Mr Zhao also said that the basic hardware of the device with sliding format was already finished months ago but they held it back to pack the newer Hisilicon Kirin 980 chipset with the device which is reported to be the world’s first 7nm SoC built by TSMC, featuring the new NPU reserved for next gen Huawei/Honor flagships. Moreover, the phone is said to pack some extra ordinary AI features with the use of new chipset.

As of now, only the China release has been confirmed. The device is expected to come within next two months in its home country with some minor refinements. Till then, stay tuned.

Realme U1 to launch in India on Nov 28 as an Amazon Exclusive

Published

on

Recently, we heard the rumours of Realme working on a selfie-centric U-series smartphone. Now, before leaks could popularise the device, the company has announced the debut date of the same by putting a teaser on the e-commerce giant Amazon.

As per the landing page on Amazon.in, the Realme U1 is touted to bear the “Most Powerful Selfie Camera Ever” backed by a high-res depth engine with accurate AI detection. Furthermore, it will feature a dew-drop notch and also will be the first smartphone to debut with MediaTek Helio P70 SoC. The device is scheduled to unveil on the 28th of November, at 12:30 PM IST.

To recall, Madhav Seth, CEO, Realme India previously confirmed that Realme would be the first one to make use of new MediaTek Helio P70 chipset built on the 12nm FinFet process. This freshly unveiled chipset bears four Cortex A73  performance cores coupled with four low-powered Cortex A53 cores that are clocked at 2.1GHz along with a dedicated co-processor for performing AI tasks, offering significant improvements concerning performance and efficiency over the Helio P60 used on the first gen Realme 1.

Apart from the dew-drop notch and chipset, we don’t have much information regarding the device. Although, an earlier GeekBench listing suggested the phone to come with Android 8.1 Oreo and 4GB of RAM.

That being said, the Realme U1 will be the fifth smartphone by the company under the third U-series lineup. With just four devices, Realme has witnessed a phenomenal growth regarding sales. They have also expanded to countries like Indonesia and Malaysia. Apart from this, the company has gone through certain events like the recent price hike followed by the logo change.

This new Selfie pro might be a game-changer for the company if priced correctly. Given that the launch is around a week to go, let’s wait and watch. Stay tuned.

oppo r17 pro

If you know Oppo‘s Indian market strategy, then you know they’ve always operated below 25K category, and they’ve always been in the market with midrangers. Only recently they launched their flagship Oppo Find X in India, and that too haven’t been seen a lot of push from the company in terms of advertisement and marketing.

Take a look at this newest post from Oppo on it’s social channels:

Yes!

Oppo is brining their R series to India.

In case you’re not familar with R series, that’s their flagship series, which was historically been used as a basic framework by OnePlus for their phones. Even the latest Oppo R17 Pro/RX17 Pro and OnePlus 6T looks remarkably similar to each other.

If indeed Oppo is bringing in Oppo R17 Pro/RX17 Pro to India, that’s a huge step for the brand as it’ll push the brand’s image as not only an offline brand, but also as a premium brand in India.

Talking about Oppo R17 Pro, it does resemble OnePlus 6T alot, but has a distinctive gradient finish and also has triple cameras on the back.

It is a flagship in terms of everything other than the SoC, as this one is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 SoC, instead of SD845 from flagships.

On the front, it boasts a 6.4 inch AMOLED display with a resolution of FHD+ (2340 x 1080 pixels) and an aspect ratio of 19:9.The display also houses an in display fingerprint scanner, much like the one on OnePlus 6T.

And on the back, this phone comes with a Triple camera setup (12 MP wide angle + 20MP primary + TOF 3D stereo camera). The phone is powered by a 3700mAh battery too.

We’ve to wait now for more teasers from Oppo to see if they’re indeed brining R17 Pro or a more recently launched lower end Oppo R15x or Oppo R17 Neo instead.

Recently, we have had the reports of Samsung Galaxy A9 (2018) coming to India in November. Now, given that we are already in mid of the month, Samsung has officially confirmed that the device will be unveiled in the country on 20th of November.

The South Korean giant has sent media invites for the launch event, which will be held in Gurugram on November 20. Following the same, the company has also confirmed the launch date in an official video. In the meanwhile, Amazon and Flipkart have created landing pages for the upcoming new smartphone, indicating that it won’t be exclusive to one and instead, will be sold via both of them. Interested ones can register using the “Notify me” button. We expect the phone to retail in offline markets as well.

The Samsung Galaxy A9 (2018) has not one, two, but a total of four rear cameras as its USP, further making it the world’s first smartphone to bear four rear cameras.

Coming to the specs, the device comes with a 6.3-inch full HD+ Super AMOLED display with an aspect ratio of 18.5:9. Under the hood, it is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 SoC clubbed with 6/8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. The storage is expandable up to 512GB via microSD card.

On the software front, it runs Samsung UI on top of Android 8.1 Oreo and is backed by a massive 3,800 mAh battery. A fingerprint scanner is given at the rear for unlocking the device. Connectivity features include 4G LTE, dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5,0, NFC, USB Type-C and A-GPS.

As far as the pricing is concerned, according to the source code in listing on Samsung’s official Indian website, the smartphone will come at a price tag of Rs 39,000 which we think is for the higher-end variant with 8/128GB RAM and storage while the 6/128GB model is expected to come at around Rs. 35,000. The device will directly compete with the recently launched OnePlus 6T at that price tag. That being said, stay tuned for the launch event.
