Honor Magic 2 Unveiled in China, comes with Bezel-less Display and Kirin 980

Huawei’s sub-brand Honor today launched the Honor Magic 2 in its homeland China. The Magic 2 is Honor’s take on the Xiaomi’s recently launched Mi Mix 3 and involves a beautiful bezel-less display with sliding mechanism and top of the line specs. If you remember, it was teased first during the Honor Play China launch, back in August.

The Honor Magic 2 comes with a Notchless 6.39-inch AMOLED display having a Full-HD+ resolution in a 19.5:9 aspect ratio. Furthermore, the phone bears an impressive Screen-to-body ratio of nearly 100% thanks to the slider which is said to make use of 5 rail sliding mechanism and needs to be pushed from the back of the phone in order to reveal front camera and other stuff.

Under the hood, it is powered by the latest HiSilicon Kirin 980 SoC coupled with ARM MALI-G76 MP10 GPU. Moreover, the handset comes in three different RAM and storage configurations including 6GB/128GB model, 8GB/128 model, and a high end 8GB/256GB model. All the three models come with an In-Display fingerprint scanner while the top end 8/256GB model also packs the 3D facial recognition for unlocking the device. The company has also implemented a “voice print” recognition technology to only recognize the voice of the owner of the device.

As rumored, the Honor Magic 2 comes with a triple camera setup at the back, comprising 16MP+ 16MP + 24MP cameras, one is super wide-angle and another is monochrome, along with an LED flash. While at the front, we have another triple16MP + Dual 2MP TOF Front Camera for depth sensing, aiding the included 3D Face Unlock, as mentioned above.

On the software front, the device runs on latest Magic UI 2.0 which is based on EMUI 9.0 on top of Android 9 Pie and packs in lot of AI features, including the voice assistant Yo-yo. It draws its juice from a 3,400mAh battery which supports 40W SuperCharge branded as MagicCharge for fast charging, just like the recently launched Huawei Mate 20 Pro.

As far as the pricing is concerned, the Honor Magic 2 starts at CNY 3799 (roughly Rs. 40,200) for the base 6/128GB model, CNY 4299 (roughly Rs. 45,500) for the 8GB/128 model, and CNY 4799 (roughly Rs. 50,800) for the 8GB/256GB model. With the pre-orders already being started today, the phone will go on sale in Black, Blue, and Red gradient options from November 6th on Vmall, Tmall, and JD.com, the top end version will be made available later in December.

In addition to the Magic 2, Honor also launched its new Honor Watch Magic running on proprietary OS with 1.2-inch AMOLED screen and USB type C port for a price of CNY 899 for the black model, and CNY 999 for the moonlight silver model. Lastly the company also revealed Honor Flypods Pro- truly wireless earphones powered by Yoyo voice assistant and Bone conduction technology.

Just a while ago, Huawei’s sub-brand Honor was found teasing its upcoming Honor 10 Lite smartphone after which we saw the leaked TV commercial that defined the phone as a Youth Edition. That being said, the company has now finally unveiled the device in China, putting a full stop on leaks and rumors.

The all-new Honor 10 Lite comes with a glass sandwich design, aided by an aluminum frame and a little water-drop notch upfront. As for the specs, the device sports a 6.21-inch IPS LCD panel with a Full HD+ resolution of 2340 x 1080 pixels in a 19:5:9 aspect ratio and 2.5D curved glass on top.

Under the hood, it is powered by the 12-nm based Kirin 710 SoC coupled with ARM Mali-G51 MP4 GPU, dedicated NPU for AI tasks and GPU Turbo 2.0. Moreover, the phone comes in three different RAM and storage configurations including 4/64GB, 6/64GB, and 6/128GB with expandable memory up to 256GB via microSD card.

In the Optics department, the Honor 10 Lite gets a vertically stacked pair of cameras at the rear, featuring a 13-megapixel primary shooter with f/1.8 aperture alongside with a secondary 2-megapixel depth sensor. Whereas, on the front, we have a 24-megapixel front camera with an aperture of f/2.0. The camera app is well-equipped with nifty AI features including AI-based portrait mode and smart scene detection which can recognize and enhance between up to 22 different scenes.

On the software front, it runs latest Android 9.0 Pie with EMUI 9.0.1 layered on top. Fueling the handset is a sufficiently large 3,400mAh battery. The device also packs in Facial recognition for unlocking in addition to the fingerprint scanner given at the back.

Connectivity options onboard include dual 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 ac (2.4GHz + 5GHz), Bluetooth 4.2 LE, GPS + GLONASS.

As for the price in China, the Honor 10 Lite starts at CNY 1399 (roughly Rs. 14,400) for the 4GB/ 64GB variant while the 6/64GB model is tipped at CNY 1,699 (approximately Rs. 17,500). The top-end model with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage has been priced at CNY 1899 (around Rs. 19,500). It will go on sale starting from Nov 22 in Gradient Blue, Gradient Red, Lily Valley White, and Magic Night Black color options.

Samsung Galaxy A9 (2018) launched in India, comes with SD660 and Quad Cameras

The Samsung Galaxy A9 (2019) debuted as world’s first quad rear camera smartphone last month in Kuala Lumpur after which the Korean smartphone giant officially teased the Indian launch. Following the same, the company has now launched the phone in India, as scheduled for today, at an event held in Gurugram.

Coming to the specifications, the Samsung Galaxy A9 (2018) comes with a large 6.3-inch Super AMOLED display with a Full-HD+ resolution of 1080×2220 pixels. It further boasts an aspect ratio of 18.5:9, marketed as Infinity display by the company.

Under the hood, the phone is powered by octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 SoC coupled with 6/8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage that can be expanded further up to 512GB via a microSD card.

As mentioned, the Samsung Galaxy A9 (2018) gets a Quad-camera setup at the back, featuring a 24MP primary camera with f/1.7 aperture, a 5MP depth sensor with a f/2.2 aperture and an 8MP wide-angle lens with a f/2.4 aperture which is further accompanied by a 10MP (f/2.4) telephoto sensor for 2X optical zoom. Whereas, the front bears a 24MP shooter for selfies and video calling. The camera app is equipped with nifty features like customizable Live Focus, AI scene optimizer, AR emojis and more.

On the software front, the handset runs Android 8.1 Oreo with Samsung’s Experience UX layered on top. Moreover, it is backed by a massive 3,800mAh battery clubbed with fast charging. It also packs in Face unlock feature in addition to the fingerprint scanner. Connectivity options include dual-SIM slots, 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, USB Type-C, NFC, as well as a 3.5mm jack.

As for the price, the Samsung Galaxy A9 (2019) starts at Rs. 36,990 for the base variant with 6GB RAM whereas the top-end model with 8GB RAM model costs Rs. 39,990. As expected, the Indian pricing is a lot less than the global one.

The device will go for pre-orders in Bubblegum Pink, Caviar Black, and Lemonade Blue color options starting from Nov 28 across all major online stores including Amazon, Flipkart, Samsung Shop, Paytm Mall and Airtel online Store in addition to the offline outlets. An additional cashback of Rs.3000 will benefit people having HDFC credit or debit cards, while the ones using EMI as a payment option can avail Airtel postpaid plan bundle benefits like unlimited voice calls, national roaming, and a free Airtel TV subscription.

Black Shark goes Official in Europe! Starts from EUR 469.

Xiaomi backed Black Shark‘s global website going live last month hinted at an imminent launch outside China. It was reported earlier that the smartphone will launch in Europe on November 16 and finally it is up for sale in the official website of Black Shark. The Black Shark global website has listed the Xiaomi Black Shark gaming smartphone for the European market with different configurations and color options.

The Black Shark Gaming smartphone was launched in April this year in China and features a 5.99 inch display with a resolution of FHD+ (1080 x 2160 pixels) which contains support for DCI-P3 Wide colour gamut that goes up to 97 percent and has brightness up to 550 nits. Under the hood, it is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset coupled with Ardeno 630 GPU. The Black Shark is available in two configurations: 6GB RAM + 64GB internal storage and 8GB RAM + 128GB internal storage.

In the optics department, the smartphone sports a dual camera setup at the rear consisting of a 20 MP sensor and a 12 MP sensor both with f/1.75 aperture and LED flash. The front offers a 20 MP camera with f/2.2 aperture for selfies and video calling. The handset runs on Android Oreo and is backed by a 4,000 mAh battery with support for Quick Charge 3.0 support. Connectivity options include 4G LTE, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, A-GPS, Glonass while sensors on-board include Gyroscope, geomagnetic, Accelerometer, Proximity and Ambient Light Sensor.

The European variant is listed in Black and Grey colours. As for the price, the company is offering an EUR 30 (Rs 2,500 approx) discount as part of introductory launch offer bringing the price of the 6GB variant to EUR 469 (Rs 38,500 approx) and the 8GB RAM variant to a discounted price of EUR 519 (Rs 42,500).
