Motorola One Action Launched. Comes with a 90° Tilted Wide Angle Action Camera!

Published

on

Motorola launched its “One” budget line of smartphones last year. Today the Lenovo-owned manufacturer announced its latest smartphone in the series: the Motorola One Action. However it’s not the smartphone’s specs that makes it stand out from the crowd, it’s the action-camera like video quality on a smartphone.

The “Action” in the name refers to the third camera sensor on the phone. It’s a dedicated 16MP ultra-wide video camera with 117-degree field of view that has the ability to shoot videos like a GoPro. Motorola made a few tweaks in the sensor to make it different from a regular smartphone.

Apart from the super-wide field of view, Motorola also physically rotated the camera. This allows you to capture landscape photos/videos while the phone is held in portrait (and vice versa). The company has added a software-side algorithm calling it “Enhanced Video Stabilisation”. With a unique combination of hardware and software innovation, Motorola perfected this technology.

The Motorola One Action features a 6.3 inch FHD+ 21:9 CinemaVision display with a hole-punch cutout at the top left corner. Under the hood, it houses a Samsung Exynos 9609 paired with 4GB RAM and 128GB internal storage with further expandable options via microSD. The other two lens at the rear are ordinary sensors of 12MP and 5MP.

The front offers a 5MP camera with f/2.0 aperture. It draws power from a 3,500 mAh battery with 10W charging. The 3.5 mm headphone jack resides at the top with the fingerprint sensor at the back. Other features include NFC and IPX2 water resistance.

The device will be launched with different Android versions. The North American version running a customized Android 9 Pie will go on sale in US and Canada in sometime in October. It will have only one guaranteed software update with the pricing yet to be disclosed. The handset with pure Android will be available from today in Brazil, Mexico and various European countries from today starting at €259 (Rs 20,500 approx). It has Denim Blue and Polar White color options.

galaxy note 10 note 10+ launch

At the Galaxy Unpacked event, Samsung has finally launched the all-new Galaxy Note 10, as well as the bigger Note 10+. The Galaxy Note 10 and Note 10+ have quite similar specifications, but the Note 10+ is not only a bigger phone but better in a few aspects. The company has also introduced a Galaxy Note 10 5G variant, which is just like the Note 10, but with the 5G connectivity option and a few minor changes that we will mention. The Galaxy Note 10 5G will be available only in South Korea as of now.

The Galaxy Note 10 has a 6.3-inch full HD Dynamic AMOLED display i.e. a resolution of 2280×1080 pixels and 401ppi display along with HDR10+ support, whereas the Galaxy Note 10+ has a bigger 6.8-inch Dyanamic AMOLED display with a higher resolution of 3040×1440 pixels. Since the launch of Galaxy Note 4, way back in 2014, for the first time, Samsung has opted for just a Full HD display on the Galaxy Note 10. Also, neither the Galaxy Note 10 or Note 10+ has got displays with high refresh rates of 90Hz or 120Hz. There is an ultrasonic in-display fingerprint scanner that is faster than the previous generation of the scanner on Galaxy Note.

Both the phones are powered by either Samsung’s flagship Exynos 9825 chipset, coupled with Mali-G76 MP12 GPU or Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 855 chipset with Adreno 640 GPU. In terms of RAM and storage, all these three phones have different options. The Galaxy Note 10 is having 8GB of RAM and 256GB onboard storage, where the Note 10 5G is having 12GB of RAM and 256GB storage. The Galaxy Note 10+ will have 12GB RAM, but users get to opt between 256GB or 512GB onboard storage. The Galaxy Note 10+ is the only phone among these three which support a microSD card of up to 1TB, but there is no dedicated slot. Instead, the phone has a hybrid slot where users can either pop in two SIM cards or a SIM and a microSD card.

In terms of camera, the Galaxy Note 10 has a triple camera setup on the back. There is a 12 MP wide-angle camera with a variable aperture of f/1.5-1.8-2.4 and OIS. A 12MP telephoto lens is there, again with OIS that offers 2x optical zoom. And finally, there is the 16MP ultrawide camera with f/2.2 aperture. In case of the Galaxy Note 10+, in addition to the trio, there is an additional sensor on the back, next to the flash. It’s called the DepthVision camera, which is used for 3D scans of objects. On the front, both the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 and Galaxy Note 10+ pack a 10-megapixel f/2.2 camera with autofocus and an 80-degree field-of-view. Samsung has brought live focus modes Blur, Big Circle, Colour Point, and Glitch. These lets users apply effects to the background in photos and videos as well.

Also, one of the new features that Samsung introduced is the capability to zoom into sounds while recording a video. This lets users zoom onto the subject and enhance the sound in the video. It lets users reduce the background noise and focus on the sound coming from the subject only. Samsung has also added a video editing suite, with S Pen support so that recording videos and editing them on the go gets easier.

The new Galaxy Note 10 lineup comes with S-Pen, a signature accessory from Samsung. The new S-Pen is way improved and long-lasting as Samsung claims that it has a standby time of 10 hours. This time, Samsung has added additional sensors in it to make it possible for users to do more using the S-Pen. When a user presses and holds the button of the S Pen and moves it around, it can trigger certain actions within various apps. Users can now swipe up or down in the Camera App to switch the cameras, left or right to go to the next or previous mode or they can even move the stylus clockwise or counter-clockwise in a circle to zoom in or out. These actions can be customized as well. Samsung has opened the SDK to third-party developers, which means developers will be able to integrate this functionality into their own apps. Samsung claims that the new S-Pen, coupled with a Note 10 is way more capable as it can understand handwriting in multiple languages and can even convert handwritten texts in file formats like Microsoft Word, PDF or it can save it as plain text or an image.

The Galaxy Note 10 and Note 10 5G pack a 3500mAh battery while the Note 10+ packs a bigger 4300mah battery. However, all these phones support fast wired as well as wireless charging at 25 Watts and 20 Watts respectively. However, the Galaxy Note 10+ can support fast charging up to 45 Watts. All the phones run Android 9.0 Pie out of the box with Samsung’s One UI on top. In terms of connectivity, the Galaxy Note 10 and Note 10+ has got Wi-Fi 802.11ax with support for VHT80 MU-MIMO and 1024QAM providing upload and download speeds up to 1.2Gbps, LTE with up to 2Gbps download speeds (and 5G in Korea), Bluetooth 5.0, USB Type-C, NFC. In terms of navigation support systems, the phones support GPS, Galileo, GLONASS, as well as BeiDou.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 10 and Galaxy Note 10+ will be available in Auro Glow, Aura White, and Aura Black colors. However, the Galaxy Note 10 will also be available in Red and Pink color options while the bigger Galaxy Note 10+, will come in a Blue color option. In terms of pricing, ahead of the launch in India on August 20, Samsung has revealed the pricing. The Galaxy Note 10 will cost Rs. 59,999. The Note 10+ will be priced at Rs. 79,999 for the 256GB storage variant. There is no word from the brand regarding the pricing of 512GB variant of Galaxy Note 10+. Also, as mentioned earlier, the Note 10 5G won’t be available in India right now.
