Xiaomi backed Black Shark is back with yet another gaming smartphone for the smartphone gaming enthusiasts. The original Black Shark was launched earlier this year and we have a successor for the device now.
The second generation Black Shark device is named Black Shark Helo. In terms of the design, the Black Shark 2 closely resembles its predecessor. The company has added RGB lighting effects in the rear for aesthetics which is a common thing in anything related to gaming. The craze for RGB has been in the gaming industry for years and it is now slowly taking over in the smartphone gaming segment.
Talking specifications, the Black Shark 2 features a 6-inch AMOLED display with 2160 x 1080 pixel resolution. The processor used is Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 processor. We were expecting the Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 which is about to be released very soon to be the first device with 10 GB of RAM. But to our surprise, Xiaomi has included up to 10GB of RAM and 256 GB of internal storage.
There will be three variants for the device – the base variant with 6 GB RAM coupled with 128 GB of internal storage, mid-variant with 8 GB RAM and 128 GB internal storage and the higher variant with whopping 10 GB of RAM and 256 GB of internal storage.
The cameras used in the devices are a dual 16 MP + 20 MP sensors on the rear along with a physical fingerprint scanner. The front packs a 20 MP sensor. The handset draws juice from a 4000 mAh battery. The RGB lighting effects are embedded into the S logo which is present on the center of the handset.
Black Shark Helo comes with a liquid cooling system to avoid thermal throttling on extensive gaming sessions. The device will ship with a controller which the company calls Black Shark Biplane Handle. The controller mainly has a joystick and a few other essential buttons. The Biplane Handle will be bundled on the left for the 6GB and 8GB RAM variants with the phones while the 10 GB variant will have the handle on both the sides.
The device lacks the headphone jack, which is quite a huge turn down considering its a gaming smartphone. There is support for 18W fast charging, front-facing stereo speakers in the device. In terms of pricing, the 6 GB + 128 GB internal storage variant will go on sale at 3199 yuan (~$460), 8GB + 128 GB variant at 3499 yuan (~$505), and 10 GB + 256 GB variant at 4199 yuan (~$605) and is available to pre-order at their official website.
