Xiaomi backed Black Shark might be launching its third gaming smartphone called Black Shark 2 by the end of April. The smartphone today appeared at benchmarking site GeekBench where some key specifications of the device are revealed. The smartphone is also rumoured to be codenamed ‘Black Shark Skywalker’ after a device with this name appeared in the GeekBench online database.

The Black Shark 2 appeared on GeekBench benchmark’s database as “blackshark AAA”. It will be powered by the top-of-the-line Snapdragon 855 paired with 12GB RAM. It is listed to run Android 9 Pie.  The device scored 3,515 and 11,413 points in the single and multi-core tests respectively. It is slightly better than the 8GB RAM variant scores which are 3,494 and 11,149 for single core and multi cores test respectively.

The company is yet to officially announce the launch date but confirmed that it will come with a Liquid Cool 3.0 which will help keep the temperature in check while running graphics intensive games. Xiaomi shared this information in the first teaser for its upcoming smartphone. The teaser comes in the form of a 9 second video posted by Black Shark founder Peter Wu and was shared in the company’s Weibo account.

The smartphone is also expected to make its way to the Indian market. The company recently announced its official presence in the country with the office located in Bengaluru. It is not sure if the company will bring its previous Black Shark and Black Shark Helo smartphone that is currently available only in China and Europe.

The Black Shark 2 was expected to be unveiled at the MWC 2019 event after Xiaomi Product Director Wang Teng Thomas put a Weibo post claiming he has seen the device and calling it “full of personality, very cool”. The post was followed by Xiaomi founder Lei Jun which seemed like a part of a  publicity campaign to generate buzz before the launch.

Xiaomi could be Testing Mi A3 & Mi A3 Lite. To Come with In Display FP & 32MP Front Camera!

Published

Xiaomi’s custom UI software MIUI looks good and performs smooth as well. However, certain customers prefer a stock Android experience instead of the shiny icons and fancy animations. The Chinese manufacturer launched the Mi A2 under the Android One platform back in August last year. Now, there are reports of its successor Mi A3 which is expected to come with the same stock Android experience.

The folks at XDA have found evidence of potential successor of the Mi A2. It was spotted with codenames “pyxis”, “bamboo_sprout”, “and cosmos_sprout”. Xiaomi adds the “sprout” suffix to its Android One smartphones, so the later two are likely Android One devices. On the other hand, the “pyxis” model could be a non-Android One device and the successor to the Mi 6X.

The report claims that these upcoming smartphone may feature an in-screen fingerprint sensor. All the three Xiaomi devices are being tested with “fod” or fingerprint on display. Though there is no need of a powerful chipset like SD 855 for an ultrasonic in-screen fingerprint sensor, we highly doubt it as it requires expensive flexible OLED displays.

The handsets will likely get a 32MP selfie camera making them the first Xiaomi smartphones to do so. They will be similar to the Vivo V15 Pro, but with 4-in-1 pixel binning support. The reason for this is Xiaomi is testing the image output of the front sensor as 32MP resolution (6560 x 4928 pixels) with remosic enabled.

There is very little information about the display size, camera resolutions, chipset, battery capacity and other specifications of the Mi A3. But since none of them are flagship devices we can rule out the top-of-the-line SD 855. There Xiaomi handsets are likely to be mid-range device and have mid-range Snapdragon chipsets.

Xiaomi is yet to officially announce the marketing names of the smartphones. We can expect some time before they hit the markets has hardware testing of new devices start weeks before they appear in the hands of testers and months before the marketing materials disseminate to online retailers. We will be covering more details in case of a leak. Till then, keep tuned.
