Asus Zenfone Max Shot and Max Plus M2 Launched in Brazil. Debuts Snapdragon SiP 1!

Last week, we had witnessed some live images and user manual leak for the upcoming devices Asus Zenfone Max Shot and the Asus Zenfone Max M2 Plus. Now the brand has officially announced both of the devices in Brazil which revealed the entire specifications.

The major change to be noted in both these handsets is the presence of a brand new chipset which Qualcomm calls Snapdragon SiP 1. This processor is made possible through a collaboration between Qualcomm and the Brazilian government.

The SiP in the name stands for System in Package. It packs all the major components into a single package which essentially means that the processor, modem, RF front end, audio codec, RAM and storage is now available in one-piece.

This integration would result in smaller motherboards which in turn will make it possible for manufacturers to bring out thinner devices. Furthermore, reports state that the RAM and storage can be changed in the SiP. This is a step in the right direction as far as modularity is concerned. The Snapdragon SiP 1 will be equivalent to the currently available Snapdragon 450 which is a 14 nm chipset.

Coming to the devices, the Zenfone Max Shot has a 6.26-inch FHD+ notched display. There will be two variants- one with 3 GB RAM and 32 GB internal storage while the other one will pack 4 GB RAM and 64 GB of internal storage.

In terms of optics, there is a triple camera setup of which the primary sensor is a 12 MP Sony IMX486 f/1.8, while the second and third lens are 8 MP 120° ultra wide-angle and 5 MP depth sensor respectively. The LED flash is mounted right below the triple cameras. For selfies, there is an 8 MP sensor along with LED flash. AI features are also incorporated into the camera.

The rear also houses the fingerprint scanner. The software is a bit outdated as it runs on Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box but the brand has stated that Android Pie will come to the device on a later stage. It draws juice from a 4,000 mAh battery. The port used is micro USB which is quite disappointing. It will be available in Red, Blue, Silver, and Black color variants to choose from.

The Asus Zenfone Max Plus M2 has similar specifications to the Max Shot. However, there will only be a single variant with 3 GB RAM and 32 GB internal storage. On the rear, there will be a dual rear camera setup comprising of 12 MP Sony IMX 486 primary sensor and 5 MP depth sensor. A physical rear-mounted sensor is also present. Apart from these, all other specifications are similar. There is a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner too. The selfie camera is also the same as that of the Zenfone Max Shot and so is the battery capacity.

As far as pricing is concerned, the Zenfone Max Plus will retail at BRL 1299 (~Rs.23,000) while the Zenfone Max Shot is priced at BRL 1,349 (~Rs.24,000) for the 3GB RAM variant and BRL 1,699 (~Rs.30,000) for the 4GB RAM variant.
