Days ago Amazon announced that they would be putting forward a team to set a partnership with Oppo, as to start a new sub brand. The company was a complete made-in-india one, but they didn’t reveal the name.
Amazon and Oppo announced today that the partnership would be named Realme. Here’s a rather funny and interesting excerpt from Twitter:
The Amazon-Oppo partnership seems to be aimed at mainly Xiaomi and Flipkart. We can give a special emphasis to Realme being a bit similar to Redmi. Also, Amazon’s role in Realme seems to be a bit similar to Flipkart’s Billion. The new company is planning to launch budget to mid range models.
Having said that, Realme is launching the Realme 1 on May 15. Here’s the design of the phone:
Actually, it looks very similar to the Oppo A3, that was earlier this April in China. So don’t be surprised if it’s the rebranded A3. The above mentioned phone was launched a couple of weeks ago and has a very stable performance. The phone comes with Mediatek’s very powerful offering, the Helio P60. The SoC directly competes with the likes of Snapdragon 660.
Do note that the Redmi Note 5 Pro, priced at 15,000 rupees (with the recent price hike) has a Snapdragon 636. The Oppo A3 has a 6.2 inch screen and a notch too. If the Realme 1 is the A3 rebranded, it would be the first budget phone to feature a notch.
Moreover, it would be one of the most powerful models in the price category. We’re not just talking about a smartphone company here. We’re talking about a company capable of killing off the rest of the competition, helped by Amazon’s trust factor and customer satisfaction. Who knows, Amazon hubs could even serve as service centres!
